Call to Prayer

Good afternoon, and welcome to
this sacred place. Each day in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of
peace, we pray to God for peace in our world. In addition, each day we
pray for a different country.
Today we will remember the people of Germany in our prayers. Located in
Central Europe, Germany remains a key member of the continent's
economic, political, and defense organizations. Europe's strongest
economic and industrial power, Germany is also the most populous
European country outside Russia. Divided into two German states since
World War Two, the decline of the USSR and the end of the Cold War
allowed for German unification in 1990. Since then Germany has expended
considerable funds to bring eastern productivity and wages up to western
standards. Today's united Germany has its problems, but the social
dislocation which was widely forecast has been minimal. Although the
euphoria of reunification has subsided, and there is some resentment and
disaffection from both sides, Germany is working towards true unity.
Christ, whose presence is like daybreak and shines in the darkness of
all our pain and fear, calls us to worship. May the light of Christ fill
our hearts this day and lead us to peace. |

First of all, I urge that prayers be
offered for everyone—petitions, intercessions and thanksgivings—and
especially for rulers and those in authority, so that we may be able to
live godly and reverent lives in peace and quiet. |

Prayer for Peace by Carolyn Dollins,
Hartshorne, Oklahoma |

Today, O God, we acknowledge you as our spiritual
origin. Favor us with your attentive ear while we pray.
Lord, by our presence we profess our faith in you. We are a collective
body of people, yet we are individuals who have need of your blessings
and so we lay before you –
Our cares, that you will lighten them.
Our anxieties, that you would still them.
Our hopes and desires, may your will be done and not our own.
Our sins, that you would forgive them.
Our thoughts, that you would purify them.
Our whole life, that we can leave this earth better than we found it.
Our prayer time, that we may be close to you as a parent, to confide in,
to take our discomforts to, and share our joys with.
Our quiet time, may we learn to listen.
May all who have gathered here be blessed with a measure of Your peace
for there is “enough and to spare.” This is our prayer in the name of
Jesus. Amen. |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
Lord of all nations, we thank you for knowing us. We
thank you for family, friends, those who will be friends, the earth and
all its bounty. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We rejoice when one step is made toward peace between nations but know
the journey is long and the steps are many. On this day, please hear our
prayers concerning the nation of Germany, its leaders and its people.
May they know the peace that only you may bring to their lives. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We lament the causes of injustice and seek enlightenment that we may
understand better our part in peace for the world. We would not forget
the need for peace in ourselves, our families, our nation, and our
church. We confess that we are less than you created us to be and humbly
ask forgiveness. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any
current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world
that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.
|
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
This day, in response to your call, we offer ourselves as instruments of
peace in our world. Amen. |

| Sending Forth |
| |
We conclude our service today with ministry of music.
You are invited to remain to pray or meditate in the quiet of this place
for as long as you may wish.
Let us go from this house and be the peacemakers and peacekeepers we are
called to be. Go in peace. |
