| Gathering in Silence Call to Prayer Lighting of Candle Invitation |
|||
| We greet you in the name of God who calls us to peace.
Each day in this sacred space, we pray to God for peace in our world. In
addition, each day we pray for a different country. Today we will remember the people of Georgia in our prayers. Located in Southeastern Europe, Georgia was absorbed into the Russian Empire in the 19th century. Rich in farmland and minerals, rugged Georgia is wedged between the Caucasus Mountains and the Black Sea. Independence came in 1991. The United Nations works to resolve separatist disputes which have become in the forefront of concerns for this country. Despite myriad problems, some progress on market reforms and democratization have been made. The recent conflict with Russia is a deep concern for the nation. As we share the glow of the candle of peace, let us unite our hearts, minds, and voices in praise as we seek new avenues of peace for our time. |

Prayer for Peace by William James, Columbia, South Carolina |
|||
| Creator of all, We are indeed humbled to be able to come into your presence. We praise you and thank you for your boundless love and mercy. Although our understanding is extremely limited, we are grateful that you allow us to be involved in the quest for peace. Help us to live lives that are in harmony with the principles which you have given us that will enable your Spirit of Peace to reside within us. As we pray, give us new insight to recognize that peace cannot be brought about by being passive, but that active measures need to be taken by all. Give us new eyes to see the needs all around us and help us to have greater desires to assisting whatever ways you lead us. Give us new excitement as we realize that each of us has a unique opportunity to assist in this cause, an opportunity that no one in the world has ever had before, or ever will have. It is our opportunity, so give us a new sense of urgency and responsibility that this knowledge brings. In Jesus’ name, we pray that you would add your increase as we join with those all over the world seeking the peace that can come only from you. Amen. |
