Gathering in Silence
Call to Prayer
Lighting of CandleInvitation |
| |
We welcome you today, and greet
you in the name of God who calls us to worship.
Each day in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to
God for peace in our world. In addition, each day we pray for a
different country.
Today we will remember the people of Estonia in our prayers. Located in
Eastern Europe, Estonia was the smallest in population of the former
Soviet republics. It was the first to push for autonomy and gained its
freedom in 1991. Estonia joined both the European Union and NATO in
1994. Oil shale accounts for 90 percent of Estonia's domestic fuel, but
environmental concerns have prompted the country to explore sources of
electric power that are less damaging to the environment.
God, who is the giver of all, is the creator of light and goodness that
we worship and praise today as we pray for peace in our world. |

For the kingdom of God is a matter not of
eating and drinking, but of justice, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
If we all serve Christ this way, we will be pleasing to God and
respected by our sisters and brothers. |

Prayer for Peace by Clifford Carlson,
Independence, Missouri |
| |
O God, our Creator,
We come again to pray for peace. Help us to be sensitive to your Spirit
as it calls us to be instruments of peace making.
May we be touched by an understanding of what you are calling us to do.
We feel so inadequate as we try to bring peace to persons or communities
in conflict. We even sense the lack of peace within ourselves.
However, we know you continue to ask us to be instruments of peace in
places where we find ourselves. You want us to cause peace to grow in
places where we are.
We need your insight as we try to do your will, as we try to let peace
grow and as we give you the honor and the glory.
Help us to envision how we can be peacemakers.
We pray in Jesus name. Amen |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
Let us join in common confession of our sins. For the
arrogance of our pride of race, of nation, and of class, by which we put
down others not of our kind and thus break the community of the human
family, we ask forgiveness. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We ask your watch care and blessing for the people of Estonia. Continue
to bless their activities to foster peace in all the world we ask. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We also ask your blessing and care for the concerns of people gathered
here today. Hear us we pray. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We ask for your guidance as we see the needs and injustices in our
families, our communities, and our world. Help as we seek to do your
will to be courageous peacemakers. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any
current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world
that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.
|
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
In the name of the Prince of Peace we pray. Amen. |

| Sending Forth |
| |
We conclude our service today with ministry of music. We
invite you to remain to pray or meditate in the quiet of this place for
as long as you may wish.
Let us hold our tongues when it would hurt another. Let us reserve
judgement when our own selfish interests would prevail. Let us promote
justice among our families, our communities, all nations and peoples of
the earth. The God of light and knowledge will bless our efforts. Let us
go and be peacemakers. |
