Gathering in Silence
Call to Prayer

Good afternoon, and we greet
you in the name of the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ. Welcome to this
sacred place. Each day in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace,
we pray to God for peace in our world. In addition, each day we pray for
a different country.
Today we will remember the people of Egypt in our prayers. Located in
northern Africa, Egypt acquired full sovereignty from the United Kingdom
following World War II. Aswan High Dam, completed in 1971, provides
hydroelectricity, as well as a controlled water supply for year-round
irrigation and desert reclamation. A rapidly growing population and
dependence on the Nile all continue to overtax resources and stress
society. The government has struggled to ready the economy for the new
millennium through economic reform and massive investment in
communications and physical infrastructure. Although the government also
struggles with violence by Islamic militants, Egypt remains relatively
stable with low unemployment, rising literacy rates and increasing
privatization of the economy.
Come, thou long expected Jesus. Come into our lives full of struggle and
heartache, and awaken in us a joy for living. Fill our lives full of
love that we might become ensigns of peace in a bruised and broken
world. |

BOOK OF COMMON WORSHIP
Remember, O Lord, the people of the world divided into many nations and
tongues. Deliver us from every evil that gets in the way of your saving
purpose; and fulfill the promise of peace on earth among men with whom
you are pleased; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Deliver us:
From the curse of war and the sin of man that causes war.
From pride that turns its back on you, and from unbelief that will not
call you Lord;
From national vanity that poses as patriotism; from loud-mouthed
boasting and blind self-worship that admit no guilt;
From the self-righteousness that will not compromise, and from
selfishness that gains by the oppression of others;
From the lust for money or power that drives men to kill;
From trusting in the weapons of war, and mistrusting the councils of
peace;
God of our lives: by the power of your Holy Spirit, we have been drawn
together by one baptism into one faith, serving one Lord and Savior. Do
not let us tear away from one another through division or hard argument.
May your peace embrace our differences, preserving us in unity, as one
body of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. |

moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
Great God of all nations, races, and creeds, we praise
you, and thank you for your plan for peace through your son, Jesus
Christ. You are our refuge in times of trial and our joy in times of
celebration. |
| The People Pray in Silence |

You are the fount of intelligence by which we earn our bread and seek to
serve you. Help us to become invested in our actions for peace and
justice. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Heal our brokenness, forgive our sins, and lead us into paths of peace,
we humbly pray. This day we especially ask for your blessings on the
people and the nation of Egypt. May they act wisely for their people and
for the good of all. |
| The People Pray in Silence |

We would also remember those who hunger and thirst for food, knowledge,
friends, shelter, or clothing. Help us to share what we have received so
that we all are blessed. |

We remember those gathered here this day,
and the concerns they bring to lay at your feet. In your compassion,
bless us with your guidance. |

Please use this space to pray for any
current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world

We conclude our service today with ministry of music. We
invite you to remain in the quiet of this place to pray or meditate for
as long as you may wish.
Let us now answer that call of peace that is generated by Jesus Christ,
and build peace in our time. Go in peace, and the God of peace will
bless you. |
