Welcome today to this sacred
place. Each day in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we
pray to God for peace in our world. In addition, each day we pray for a
different country.
Today we will remember the people of Dominica in our prayers. Located in
the Caribbean, much of Dominica is protected as national wilderness.
Dominica is poor and dependent on its economic mainstay, bananas
although governments have sought to broaden the economic base. Some
3,000 Carib Indians still living on Dominica are the only pre-Columbian
population remaining in the eastern Caribbean.
We come from this place in time and space to worship the One who, from
everlasting to everlasting, is God. Come, let us enter this worship with
joy. |

| Scripture Reading: Isaiah 61:8-11 NRSV |
| |
For I the LORD love justice, I hate robbery
and wrongdoing.
I will faithfully give them their recompense,
and I will make an everlasting covenant with them.
Their descendants shall be known among the nations,
and their offspring among the peoples: all who see them shall
acknowledge
that they are a people whom the LORD has blessed.
I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my whole being shall exult in my
God;
for he has clothed me… with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom
decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her
jewels.
For as the earth brings forth its shoots,
and as a garden causes what is sown in it to spring up,
so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring up before
all the nations. |

Prayer for Peace by Lu Mountenay,

Creator God, here is a question I ask of you...
When two paths cross and neither will yield, what can we do?
When things aren't fair, and people don't share, what can we do?
When choices are hard and peace can't be found, what can we do?
Creator God, here is a blessing I ask of you...
Show us a third, and better path that is good for us all.
Help us speak up for those who depend on us, as we depend on you.
Cause us to remember the choice Christ made for us... for life... for
peace.
With your Spirit to empower us Lord, we will act in your stead; we will
remember you. Amen. |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
Great Spirit, Allah, Adonai, God of all nations and all
peoples, by whatever name you are known, we come before you in praise
and thanksgiving. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Forgive our sins of selfishness and pride, we humbly ask. Help us to
learn to be more like our Savior, Jesus, and act in his stead. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Guide us into the joy of being, and the desire of joyful peace for all
peoples. We especially remember the people of Dominica this day. May
their peacemakers be used to hasten peace. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We also have personal concerns. Hear us we ask, Great God, and enlighten
our minds to ways we can minister in your stead. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any
current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world
that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.
|
| The People Pray in Silence |

Hear our collective prayers, O Prince of Peace, that your peace may
become the peace of this world. Amen. |
