Call to Prayer
Lighting of CandleInvitation |

It is good to welcome you to
this sacred place, and we greet you in the name of our God. Each day in
this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to God for peace
in our world. In addition, each day we pray for a different country.
Today we will remember the people of Comoros in our prayers. Located in
Southern Africa, Comoros is a group of islands in the Mozambique
Channel. Coups have created great instability. Comoros has endured 19
coups or attempted coups since gaining independence from France in 1975.
The islands of Anjouan and Moheli declared their independence in 1997
but a new constitution in 2001 brought them back together. Most revenue
comes from the export of vanilla beans and essences used in the
manufacture of perfumes.
Let us contemplate the symbol found in the candle of peace, for Christ
is our peace.
In Christ, God made all one, and broke down the dividing wall between us
to create out of us a new humanity, thereby making peace. So Christ came
and proclaimed the good news; peace to you who were afar off, and peace
to those nearby. |

| |
Is not this what I require of you, to loose
the fetters of injustice, to untie the knots of the yoke, and set free
those who have been crushed? Is it not sharing your food with the
hungry, taking the homeless poor into your house, clothing the naked
when you meet them and never evading a duty to your kinsfolk? If you
cease to pervert justice, to point the accusing finger and lay false
charges, if you feed the hungry from your own plenty and satisfy the
needs of the wretched, then your light will rise like dawn out of
darkness and your dusk be like noonday. The Lord will be your guide
continually and will give you strength of limb. You will be like a
well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail. You shall be
called Rebuilder of broken walls, Restorer of houses in ruins. |

Prayer for Peace by Sheryl Holstein, Roswell,
Georgia |
| |
Dear God,
We confess to times of insensitivity, ignorance, judgment, indifference,
hatred and greed. Help us tear down the walls that separate us from each
other. Lord, let us see you in the faces of our brothers and sisters.
Let us hear the cries of the frightened.
Living on every continent are those who are oppressed, hungry, and heavy
laden. As we merge in your love, help us unfold the red bud of passion
as we become a people of compassion. Let us keep the Lamp of Life
burning. Free us from our own limitations that we might free others.
Renew in us your Spirit, that we might be faithful to each other in your
love.
Together we can build your community, in our hearts, with our minds,
words, and deeds. May our hands join, our minds unite, and our hearts
beat as one.
This is our prayer of peace. We lay it at your feet that it may be
acceptable and we all might be healed in your love.
In Jesus' name we pray, Amen. |

Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
We thank you, God, for your many blessings; for friends,
family, and those who give particular meaning to our lives. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We pray for Comoros, its leaders and people. May they know the peace
that only you may bring to their lives. And may they respect their
neighbors as they respect themselves. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We pray for those who are oppressed by poverty, disease, exploitation,
and prejudice. May all realize their worth as your children. Help us to
see ourselves in the light of your vision—to become the children you
have created us to be. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We confess to you our shortcomings. In your mercy, we ask forgiveness
for our sins. Let us also pray now for the special concerns and needs of
those who are gathered here this day. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any
current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world
that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.

| Sending Forth |
| |
We will conclude our service for today with ministry of
music. We invite you to remain in the quiet of this place to pray or
meditate for as long as you may wish.
Now may the God of peace, and love, and hope, be with you as you go from
this place to answer God’s call. We are called to be the peacemakers and
peacekeepers in our world. Let us be true to our calling. Amen. |
