Welcome today to this sacred
place. Each day in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we
pray to God for peace in our world. In addition, each day we pray for a
different country.
Today we will hold up the people of Cambodia in our prayers. Cambodia is
located in Southeastern Asia. Following years of struggle with communist
rule and fighting in the 1970’s and 80’s, the United Nations sponsored
elections in 1993 to help restore some semblance of normalcy in
Cambodia. Factional fighting in 1997 ended the first coalition
government, but a second round of national elections in 1998 led to the
formation of another coalition government and renewed political
stability. Future stability is tied to improving the country's
long-suffering economy, eradicating the entrenched culture of
corruption, reducing the size of the military and answering the troubled
question of royal succession. Coming into the 21st century, Cambodia
enjoys relative stability, but subsistence farming employs 75 percent of
the workforce and many live in poverty.
We greet you in the name of the God of Peace who calls us to worship.
Let us unite as one to praise God and offer up our supplications for
world peace. |

Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for
I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find rest unto your souls;
for my yoke is easy and my burden is light. |

Prayer for Peace by Julie Conway of

Our Loving Creator, we feel Your tug at our heart’s
strings, inviting us to know You and Your plan for our world more
clearly each day. We recognize that it is Your love that not only
surrounds us but resides within us prompting us to listen to the
leadings of your Holy Spirit. Open the eyes of our understandings.
When turmoil encompasses us or others in our world, may we reach out to
touch the lives of those who do not yet recognize their need for you.
May we also follow your leadings when life is peaceful. Without You we
are nothing; with You we can be empowered to be your instruments for
spreading peace.
Let us be ready and willing to serve as peace makers in our corners of
the world. Amen |
