Gathering in Silence
Call to Prayer

Welcome today to this time of
prayer and worship. Each day in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of
peace, we pray to God for peace in our world. In addition, each day we
pray for a different country.
Today we will remember the people of Brazil in our prayers. Located in
South America, Brazil, an independent nation since 1822, is by far the
largest and most populous country in South America. The country pursues
industrial and agricultural growth and development of its interior.
Exploiting vast natural resources and a large labor pool, it is today
South America's leading economic power and a regional leader. Highly
unequal income distribution remains a pressing problem. Over 50 million
Brazilians remain truly poor, many desperately so. The nation
encompasses about half the Amazon rain forest, home to 150,000 Indians
and countless plant and animal species. The government is making
progress in conserving the tropical rain forest and protecting the
indigenous people.
We are here to pray for help to bring peace to our world. May God bless
us and lead us. |

May the LORD show you his kindness

May the LORD watch over you

Prayer for Peace by David R. Brock,
Independence, Missouri |

You are our peace, Christ Jesus.
You are the Dismantler.
Brick by block by stone
You take apart the dividing walls
our ancestors built. Barriers
we repaired and fortified, that You
even now, are breaking down.
You are our peace, Christ Jesus.
You are the Tree of Life;
shelter for the weary and wounded,
cooling shade in the heat of embattled days.
And your leaves, Life-Giving Tree,
are for the healing of nations,
victim and perpetrator alike.
You are our peace, Christ Jesus.
You are the Breath of Spirit.
When we are locked behind the door of fear,
bunkered against the world’s anxieties,
You find us and say, “Fear not.”
You breathe “Shalom” upon us
and send us blessed into God’s world.
You are our peace, Christ Jesus.
Help us be Your peace. Amen |

our lives. |

We confess to you our shortcomings. In your compassion forgive our sins,
known and unknown, things done and left undone. Let us pray now for the
special concerns and needs of those gathered here this day. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We pray for the nations of the world, and in particular on this day the
nation and people of Brazil. May they use their resources for the good
of all people. May we all learn to be wise stewards of the riches you
have bestowed upon us. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any
current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world
that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.
