Call to Prayer

We greet you in the name of God
who calls us to worship in this sacred place. Each day in this Temple
dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to God for peace in our
world. In addition, each day we pray for a different country.
Today we will remember the people of Bhutan in our prayers. Located in
southern Asia, Bhutan achieved independence from Britain in 1947.
Despite the huge potential of its natural resources, Bhutan emerged as
one of Asia's poorest countries, shunning the 'profit at all costs'
mentality of the rest of the world. This conservative Buddhist kingdom
high in the Himalayas had no paved roads until the 1960s and was
off-limits to foreigners until 1974. Fertile valleys (less than 10
percent of the land) feed all the Bhutanese. Aided by India, Bhutan
exports hydroelectricity to its neighbor.
We come from the darkness of our night into the light of God's day.
Come, let us enter this worship with joy as we remember that great gift,
so freely given, that we might have abundant life. |

Divine Creator,
We draw apart from the world around us to pray for peace in the world.
This wonderful world with all the possibilities for mankind to live in
joy and happiness is continually torn apart by war and strife..
It has been so long since we have seen world peace. So much human effort
has been wasted in war, the preparation and manufacturing of war
materials. Standing armies reduce earth’s resources which could be used
to support programs of assistance to all mankind.
Human efforts to find solutions to disease, poverty, excesses of nature
are reduced because nations choose to dominate their neighbors.
Be still and know that I am God rings down through the ages of the
calling all peoples to follow “him” who said: “Do unto others as you
would have them do unto you.”
The image of peace, the dove and the olive branch calls each one in the
world to respond to the call “this is my beloved Son, hear ye Him.”
May the peace of the creator which passes all understanding be in your
hearts this day, and let us join all peoples, all faiths, all nations in
the yearning of our hearts that together we say, “Let there be peace on
earth and let it begin with me.” Amen |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
Heavenly Creator, you are the way of peace. By the fire
of your Holy Spirit melt our hard hearts, and consume the pride and
prejudice which separate us. Fill us, O Lord, with your perfect love
which casts out fear, and bind us together in that unity which you share
with the Prince of Peace and the Holy Spirit. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We pray for all attempts to bring together people of different
traditions and customs. Help us to see the good in all people especially
as we remember the people of Bhutan. May they learn peace with all
nations. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
At this time we remember our private concerns. Hear our petitions we
humbly ask. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any
current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world
that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.

We thank you and praise you for love that sustains us, for wisdom that
directs us, and for the desire that beckons us toward peace in our
world. In the name of Jesus the Christ we pray. Amen. |

| Sending Forth |
| |
We conclude our service today with ministry of music. We
invite you to remain in the quiet of this place to pray or meditate for
as long as you may wish.
As we go from this house, let us remember our good resolves to be
peacemakers in our world. Guide our every intent, O God, as we learn to
listen to that still, small voice of reason. Go, and share peace. |
