Gathering in Silence
Call to Prayer
Lighting of CandleInvitation |
| |
Good afternoon, and thank you
for joining us in prayer and worship in this sacred place. Each day in
this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to God for peace
in our world. In addition, each day we pray for a different country.
Today we will remember the people of Bangladesh in our prayers.
Bangladesh is located in southern Asia in the republic of the Indian
subcontinent in the Ganges Delta. The official language is Bengali. It
was a longtime part of the British India, but became independent in
1971. A densely populated, fertile agricultural low country, it is prone
to repeated monsoonal
flooding, and is one of the poorest countries in the world.
We greet you in the name of God who has called us to worship. May the
light from our candle of peace illumine our hearts, open our minds, and
challenge us to new avenues of peace as we worship together. |

You are called to create pathways in the
world for peace in Christ to be relationally and culturally incarnate.
The hope of Zion is realized when the vision of Christ is embodied in
communities of generosity, justice, and peacefulness. Above all else,
strive to be faithful to Christ’s vision of the peaceable Kingdom of God
on earth. Courageously challenge cultural, political, and religious
trends that are contrary to the reconciling and restoring purposes of
God. Pursue peace. |

Prayer for Peace by Karen Anne Smith,
Ludington, Michigan |

Creator,
Forgive us our human frailty. Cleanse us of all resentment that we may
truly become your children. We love your creation and claim all people
as family. Our hearts ache to relieve the suffering in our world, to
bring the healing ministry of Jesus Christ to the bruised and broken
hearted. But as much as we love each person, we know that you love them
even more. Your love is pure, unfathomable and unfailing.
Increase our love, dear Father, to include those who are "enmeshed in
sin", snared by the darkness of hate. These are also your children and
part of our family. Fill our hearts with compassion that overcomes
anger. Please teach us how to listen to your direction that we may
become instruments of peace, children of God.
In the name of Jesus the Living Christ we pray. Amen. |

Lord of all space, we thank you for knowing us. We thank
you for family, friends and those who will be friends, the earth and all
its bounty. |
| The People Pray in Silence |

We confess that we are less than you created us to be and humbly ask
forgiveness. Please guide us in your ways. |
| The People Pray in Silence |

We rejoice when one step is made toward peace between nations but know
the journey is long and the steps are many. On this day, please hear our
prayers concerning the nation and the people of Bangladesh. May they be
encouraged to continue their quest for justice for all people. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We lament the causes of injustice and seek enlightenment that we may
understand better our part in peace for the world. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We would not forget the need for peace in ourselves, our families, our
nation, and our church. Hear our concerns, we pray. |
The People Pray in Silence |

Please use this space to pray for any
