Invitation

We greet you in the name of Jesus the Christ, and are grateful for your gathering in this sacred place for prayer. Each day in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to God for peace in our world. In addition, each day we pray for a different country.

Today we will hold up the people of Yemen in our prayers. Yemen is a republic located in the south of the Arabian Peninsula in the Middle East. Islamic since the 7th century, Yemen split for a time in 1967, but reunification occurred in 1990. Modest oil reserves provide most of the revenue with cotton and coffee trade, but it is the poorest country in the Middle East.

Let us reflect on the history that led to the creation of this building on this piece of ground, and consider the temple we are building in our souls.

Scripture Reading: Isaiah 11:4-5, adapted
He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears; but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions of the poor of the earth.

Prayer for Peace by Anonymous

I seek a heart that is attuned to listen to the sounds of human life - the murmurings of pain and struggle, the babble of confusion and doubt, the whispering of yearnings, the ecstatic outburst of joy and delight.

I seek a heart with an interior vision that "sees" beyond the exterior - the peacefulness of a life well spent, the prayerfulness of the quiet, the agony of the fearful, the loneliness of the complainer.

I seek a heart imbued with feeling that can penetrate closed walls: walls that shut out closeness, walls that prohibit friendship, walls that choke out life.

I seek a heart that is other-centered, motivated by love of my God, freely giving til' it hurts, joyfully surrendering selfish whims, peacefully touching life with beauty, gently walking in God's way.

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate.
Creator God of all nations and all peoples, by whatever name you are known, we come before you in praise and thanksgiving.
The People Pray in Silence
Forgive our sins of selfishness and pride, we humbly ask. Teach us of your ways, and guide us into the desire for joyful peace for all peoples.
The People Pray in Silence
We pray particularly for the nation of Yemen this day. May its citizens know that you are the God of all nations.
The People Pray in Silence
We would also pray that the needs and concerns of the people gathered here would be heard and answered by your divine wisdom.
The People Pray in Silence
Please use this space to pray for any current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.
The People Pray in Silence
Hear our collective prayers, O God, that your peace may become the peace of this world. Amen.

Sending Forth
We will conclude our service today with Ministry of Music. You are invited to remain to pray or meditate in the quiet of this place for as long as you may wish.

Just as the woman in the crowd was healed when she touched the hem of Jesus' garment, may people be healed as they touch you. Go and heal in Jesus' name, and you shall be healed. Amen.
