Welcome, and we greet you in the name of Christ Jesus to
this sacred place. Each day in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of
peace, we pray to God for peace in our world. In addition, each day we
pray for a different country.
Today we will remember the people of the United Arab Emirates in our
prayers. Located in the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates were seven
sheikdoms which combined to form
a federation after the United Kingdom pulled out of this barren coastal
region in 1971.
Its generosity with oil revenues and its moderate foreign policy stance
have allowed it to play a vital role in the affairs of the region. The
UAE has become a major international business center and one of the most
stable and untroubled countries in the Arab world. Foreign workers now
make up three-quarters of the UAE population, making it one of the most
liberal and pluralistic countries in the Gulf region. Future prosperity
may be threatened by a more basic problem: water. The UAE is the highest
consumer of water per capita in the world, and the groundwater levels
have fallen 30m (100ft) in 30 years.
We come here today with many differing needs, many unique strengths, but
with one common desire: to become more effective in our service in the
Cause of Peace. |

You are the light of the world. A city on a
hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a
bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone
in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before all people,
that they may see your good deeds and praise your Creator in heaven. |

Prayer for Peace by Barry Williams, Regina,

Dear God,
Give us direction in the midst of all the confusion and diverse
opinions; help us learn and live the example of your son Jesus Christ.
Help us not be envious of others; help us to be tolerant of others. Help
us to see the good things that happen and the good in people. Help us
treat others with respect in the way we would want to be treated
ourselves by others.
Give us strength to be steadfast and consistent, but also to be open
minded and make decisions in a fair and unbiased way.
Give us strength to not tire of doing good work.
In the name of Christ, our Lord, Amen. |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
In the midst of daily duties, in deep awareness of
personal problems, in the midst of world issues that threaten to destroy
us we bow our heads in gratitude that we have been counted worthy to
bear the burdens of peace in our day. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We sense the awesome purity of God's holiness and we long to be truly
free from the stain of sin. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
The United Arab Emirates are striving for a peace-filled future. We pray
before God, who does all things well, to be with the peacemakers who
work for justice in their midst. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We would not forget the need for peace in ourselves, our families, our
nation, and our church. Hear our concerns, we pray. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any
current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world
that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.
|
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Let the spirit of praise clothe our silence as we bow before God and lay
our concerns at his
feet. Amen. |

| Sending Forth |
| |
We will end our service today with ministry of music.
You are invited to remain to pray or meditate in the quiet of this place
for as long as you may wish.
As you leave this time of worship, go with quickened step assured that
God is with you.
Let your walk speak the testimony in your heart. Let your words declare
the joy of your walk. |
