Call to Prayer
Lighting of CandleInvitation |
| |
We greet you in the name of God who calls us to peace, and welcome
to this sacred place. Each day in this sacred space, we pray to God for
peace in our world. In addition, each day we pray for a different
country.
Today we will remember the people of Tajikistan in our prayers.
Tajikistan is located in Central Asia where it is inhabited by an
Iranian, Sunni Muslim people. Independent from the Soviet Union since
1991, it has an economy based on agriculture and mineral extraction.
As we gaze upon the glow of the candle of peace, let us unite our
hearts, minds, and voices in praise as we seek new avenues of peace for
our time. |

| Scripture Reading: Jeremiah 31:33-34 NRSV |
| |
This is the covenant that I will make, says the LORD. I
will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts; and I
will be their God, and they shall be my people. No longer shall they
teach one another, or say to each other, ‘Know the LORD,’ for they shall
all know me, from the least of them to the greatest. |

Prayer for Peace by Bel Nor, Missouri
Congregation Home Fellowship |
| |
Dear Creator of all mankind:
We lift our voices in prayer because we want peace in the world.
However, we are aware that obtaining peace is a process and must begin
with us. Open our hearts to your peaceful spirit that we may grow in
understanding. Help us practice the concepts of peace, like sharing and
giving and loving, that those around us may recognize these principles
as habits for a good life.
Our hope for peace is that, like the mustard seed, it will be planted
and nourished over time that it will grow and grow to fill the hearts of
mankind. We ask, Abba, that you will show us the steps to the Kingdom of
Peace. Give us tolerance that prejudice may lesson. Give us love and
honor in our own households, that your children will grow up with a
strong conviction of peace.
Give us courage to promote peace among those who are blinded by anger,
or living in pain, anguish, or degradation: or those who may be in
situations that we cannot begin to imagine. We lift our prayers with
mighty voices that we might remember that all people are created in Your
image and are worthy of respect.
We ask a blessing on those in positions of authority that they may have
wisdom in dealing with world events beyond our direct control. Open
their eyes to the fact that education of the poor is a primary step to
peace. Keep the hearts of the Saints open to the kinship of humanity
that we will know the people of the earth as brothers and sisters. And,
although we are all different, that we are all very worthy of Your love.
We ask, Heavenly Parent, in the belief of peace and knowing that You
love Your creation and want us to live in harmony and joy. Help the
inhabitants of earth to become the best we can be—a mirror of Yourself.
We make this prayer in the name of the Prince of Peace, Jesus. Amen. |

God of all the earth and those who dwell thereon, we pray that
the light of peace will heal the evil places of the earth. We pray for
those who suffer the destruction and desolation of war and human
selfishness. May your light fill all the world. |
