Gathering in Silence
Call to Prayer
Lighting of CandleInvitation |
| |
We greet you in the name of God
who calls us to peace. Each day in this sacred place, we pray to God for
peace in our world. In addition, each day we pray for a different
country.
Today we will remember the people of Spain in our prayers. Spain is
located in Southwestern Europe and occupies the greater part of the
Iberian Peninsula. In 1986 Spain joined the European Union. Spain now
enjoys one of the most dynamic economies in Europe with an agricultural
base, but is also heavily industrial in some areas.
As we light our candle this day, may its flame cause us to open our
minds, and challenge us to find new avenues of peace as we worship
together. |

Prayer for Peace by Gwendolyn McClain,

Our Heavenly Creator,
We lift our hearts to Thee in prayer. Help us to understand your will,
that we may become a peaceful people throughout Your world. In Your word
we are told "Blessed are the peacemakers." Lord, help us to become
peacemakers—improve our skills in making peace on earth. We want to have
a stable and loving home life, so there will be peace in our hearts, our
churches, and our communities.
We say, "Lord, let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me." We
want to reach out to others. Help us to reach out to others in
reconciliation and follow the example of Thy Son.
We need help to see and appreciate the worth of humanity throughout the
world.
We accept our Lord, Jesus, as our example of peace.
Give us guidance and empowerment so that we do what we can to bring
peace into the world.
In Jesus name we pray. Amen. |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
God of all nations and all peoples, we come before you
in praise and thanksgiving. Guide us into the joy of being, and the
desire for joyful peace for all peoples. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We pray particularly for the nation and people of Spain this day. May
they know the light of your love, and the peace that only you may
provide. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We pray for the concerns of those gathered here today. Great God, we
would also ask for your guidance as we try to live by your standards of
peace. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Forgive our sins of selfishness and pride, we humbly ask. Teach us of
your peace, O God, that we may become the builders of peace on this
earth. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We pray for justice in this community as
well as around the world. Help us to understand that you have provided
enough for all, and we need to learn to share with each other. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any
current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world
that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.
|
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Hear our collective prayers, O God of Peace, that your peace may become
the peace of this world. Amen |
