We greet you on this World Day
of Peace, and welcome to this sacred place. Each day in this Temple
dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to God for peace in our
world.
Let us unite our hearts and minds and voices as we pray for peace in our
time and for this earth. It is our usual custom to pray for a single
country or people each day, but today, on this New Year’s Day, we come
together to pray for peace among the World’s Human Family. There are so
many in our family who are hungry today, so many are afraid and alone.
There are so many that sometimes it seems overwhelming, and we turn away
because one person couldn’t make a difference. Let us make a resolution
this New Year’s to help just one member of our human family, to offer a
hand and bring one person food or warmth or help. In this way, one
person at a time, eventually all will be cared for.
We greet you in the name of the Prince of Peace who calls us to worship. |

Lift up your eyes and fix them on the place
beyond the horizon to which you are sent. Journey in trust, assured that
the great and marvelous work is for this time and for all time. |

Our Creator God,
I am so overwhelmed by your majesty and cannot comprehend the how and
why of you. Yet, your love is so constant and so complete, I am filled
with its assurance and peace.
This temporal world seems to be in a state o f perpetual turmoil and
chaos. Thousands of voices, vying for attention, seemingly drowning the
still, small voice of your Holy Spirit. Only his very persistence
penetrates our hearts bringing light and hope: Hope for a better way,
reassurance of your unfailing love, joy beyond compare in a personal
knowledge of you, our Creator.
You, who fashion each person in such a unique way, are interactive with
each of us at all times. We are instruments uniquely prepared by our
Maker for service in establishing your purpose right where we are.
May we cleanse our inner beings of all strife and discord, becoming pure
vessels before you. May we be used by you to spread a sense of inner
peace to those searching and struggling for someone’s touch, for an
indication they are of value and are loved.
Empower each of us to accept the challenge of discipleship, submit our
wills to your will, that your peace which we only glimpse in fleeting
moments may become the reality we know bringing calm, restoration and
renewal to the hearts still in turmoil.
May we, each day, respond to your call, your touch, your voice beckoning
us toward the reality of peace and life which are found in relationship
with you, our God. May your Holy Spirit guide us in our daily walk – a
walk of peace and healing of spirit – heart to heart, sharing in love
and joy.
In the name of your son, the Christ.... Amen. |

We rejoice when one step is made toward peace between nations but know
the journey is long and the steps are many. On this day, please hear our
prayers concerning our world’s human family. May we all be encouraged to
continue our quest for justice until all of us live in a peaceful world. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We lament the causes of injustice and seek enlightenment that we may
understand better our part in peace for the world. We confess that we
are less than you created us to be and humbly ask forgiveness. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We would not forget the need for peace in ourselves, our families, our
nation, and our church. Hear our concerns, we pray. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any
