Invitation

Welcome to this sacred place, and thank you for your gift of presence as we worship together. Each day in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to God for peace in our world. In addition, each day we pray for a different country.

Today we will remember the people of Nepal in our prayers. Located in southern Asia,
Nepal has suffered from political unrest over the past 10 years. With the declaration of an interim constitution in 2007, the legislature agreed to Maoist demands and voted to end the monarchy. In 2008 legislative elections, the Maoists won the largest number of seats, and the monarchy has been abolished.

We search for the peace above, and for God's plan for creation to be at peace, for the peace of the whole world, for the well-being and unity of all. And the Lord answers, "Learn of me, and listen to my words; walk in the meekness of my Spirit and you shall have peace in me."

Scripture Reading: Isaiah 54:10 KJV
The mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed.

Prayer for Peace by Carol Oliver Wilkins, Pensacola, Florida

O LORD, OUR LORD, you who have designed and created us, we come before you now, to petition, to plead for the courage, the desire, and the will to search for peace.

Help us, Father, to discover your design for peace, knowing that our design has fallen and failed when you have been excluded.

Send your spirit, O Lord, to guide our hearts and minds along the often stormy and rocky road to a peace which will endure.

Give us the peace of your Son, our Savior, and renew our ability to become peacemakers, reclaiming our world for him.

Let us then move to act out, not just talk about, the peace that comes from our divine connection to you, our God, our Creator and the only true author of lasting peace.

Now let the words of our mouths and the meditations of our hearts be acceptable in your sight, O Lord our strength and our Redeemer. Amen.

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate.
God of all that is, all that ever was, and all that shall come to be, we praise you. We are grateful for this day you have blessed us with and for this place dedicated to the pursuit of peace where we may gather with you.
The People Pray in Silence
We give thanks for this time of remembering your goodness, your loving care, your guidance, and your plan for creation to be at peace.
The People Pray in Silence
Forgive us when we have not remembered and have been guilty of actions and thoughts that did not promote peace.
The People Pray in Silence
This day, O God, we remember the nation and the people of Nepal. Be with the peacemakers there, and may we all learn to live in harmony, one with another.
The People Pray in Silence
We would also hold up before you the concerns and the needs of the people gathered here this day.
The People Pray in Silence
Please use this space to pray for any current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.
The People Pray in Silence
Heal us, we humbly pray, O God, that we may be instruments of peace in this world . Amen.

Sending Forth
We conclude our service today with ministry of music. We invite you to remain in the quiet of this place to pray or meditate for as long as you may wish.

Let us go forth now and be God's people in our world, thereby making a positive statement for peace in our time.
