Thank you for joining us in
this service of prayer, and welcome to this sacred place. Each day at
this time, we pray to God for peace in our world. In addition, each day
we pray for a different country.
Today we will hold up the people of Kuwait in our prayers. Located in
the Middle East, Kuwait was attacked and overrun by Iraq in August of
1990. Seven months later, routed by a U.S.-led coalition, Iraqi forces
left behind a burned and looted land. By 1992 the last of more than 700
oil well fires had been quenched, and Kuwait has since rebuilt its
petroleum sector. Today, many resources are being used to remove land
mines and clean up environmental damage left over from the Iraqi
retreat. Ten percent of oil revenues are, by law, put into a trust to
prepare for the day that Kuwait's massive oil reserves dry up.
Let us unite in our worship of the giver of peace. |

Let contentions and quarrelings among you
cease. Sustain each other in peace, and ye shall be blessed with my
Spirit. |

Prayer for Peace by Ila H. Purcell,

O God of love and peace,
Our thoughts reach out to honor and praise your holy name. We entreat
your remembrance of all humanity throughout your creation. We entreat
your remembrance of the many who are suffering in lands across the seas.
Join our thoughts with their thoughts for loving compassion to motivate
a new desire to be your family of nations. May you free us of all envy
and lust in our self-centeredness, that we might have peaceful
relationships with your spirit in our midst. Seal this blessing I pray
thee. Amen. |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
Lord God, we praise you and give you honor for your plan
for all creation to be at peace. Help us to temper our desires so that
we, too, will be at peace in your world. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We remember those times when we have not acted in a peaceful manner.
Forgive us, we humbly pray. Guide us into those paths that will use the
knowledge you have given us to pursue justice instead of war. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
This day we especially pray for the nation and the people of Kuwait.
Help them to seek ways building peace in their country as well as with
other countries. Teach us peace all of your peace. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Let us pray for the concerns of those gathered here this day. May God
bless each one with the wisdom they seek. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any
