We welcome you in the name of
the Prince of Peace, and thank you for joining us today to for worship.
Each day in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to
God for peace in our world. In addition, each day we pray for a
different country.
Today we will remember the people of Jordan in our prayers. Located in
the Middle East, Jordan gained it’s independence from British
administration in 1946, and was ruled by King Hussein. In 1989,
parliamentary elections were resumed and gradually permitted political
liberalization; in 1994 a formal peace treaty was signed with Israel.
Hospitality is a cornerstone of Arab life. It is commonplace for
Jordanian families, particularly desert dwellers, to welcome strangers
into their home. The tradition developed from the harshness of desert
life - without food, water and shelter from strangers, most desert
travelers would die.
Welcome to this special time for worship and prayer. It is good to meet
in the name of the Prince of Peace who came to show us the way to a
better life. God will bless us with his presence. |

Collectively and individually, you are
loved with an everlasting love that delights in each faithful step
taken. God yearns to draw you close so that wounds may be healed,
emptiness filled, and hope strengthened. Do not turn away in pride,
fear, or guilt from the One who seeks only the best for you and your
loved ones. Come before your Eternal Creator with open minds and
hearts….Be vulnerable to divine grace. |

Prayer for Peace by Bob Arthur, Omaha,

Loving God,
We have gathered together for a moment of peace in the midst of our
hectic daily schedules. We honor you for who you are: our Sovereign of
Peace. We revel in the joy and peace you give us here and whenever we
take time to be in your presence. But we also acknowledge that we all
too often allow the demands of our daily routine to crowd us out of
spending more peaceful moments in your presence. Forgive us, we pray,
for our "busi-ness." Help us to find the time alone with you that we
need.
God, you know how far away Jordan seems to those gathered in this place.
Not only is it geographically distant, but peace seems to be such an
elusive dream for that part of the world. Yet, you have told us to pray
for peace in such troubled places. We want to be obedient, so we pray
for their peace.
We know that those who live in troubled places are our brothers and
sisters with needs desires, and differences very much like our own. So
we look around the communities in which we live, we recognize the same
need to pray for peace in our communities. As we pray for people near
us, we also want to pray for the same needs of peace for others. We may
have different religious systems that help us to relate to you, yet we
pray that we can rise above our religious structures and join together
in seeking your peace for all of us. We find ourselves in different
economic or social classes, different races and cultures, physical
abilities, sexual orientations, genders, political persuasions, and
religions. Despite our differences, we are all your creation, people
made in your image and people who, deep down, desire a peaceful
relationship with you and with each other.
So, God of Perfect Peace, we pray for the peace which passes all
understanding to fall upon all peoples everywhere on this globe. We ask
this all in the name of the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ, our Savior.
Amen. |

We thank you, God, for your many blessings; for friends,
family, and those who give particular meaning to our lives. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We confess to you our shortcomings. In your mercy, we ask forgiveness
for things which hurt another. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We ask your blessing for those who are oppressed by poverty, disease,
exploitation, and prejudice. May each of us realize the worth of another
and not add to the distress of anyone. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We pray for the nation of Jordan, their leaders and their people. May
they continue working for peace among themselves and with the world,
learn peace. Especially bless the children and those who are unable to
care for themselves. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We ask for your blessing upon the special
concerns of those gathered here this day. |
| The People Pray in Silence |

We will conclude our service today with ministry of
music. We invite you to remain in the quiet of this place to pray or
meditate for as long as you may wish.
Let us remember to be God's people in our world, thereby making a
positive statement for peace in our time. God will bless us as we seek
to fulfill divine purposes. |
