| Gathering in Silence Call to Prayer Lighting of Candle Invitation |
||
| We greet you in the name of the
God who has called us to peace. Each day in this Temple dedicated to the
pursuit of peace, we pray to God for peace in our world. In addition,
each day we pray for a different country. Today we will hold up the people of Jordan in our prayers. Located in the Middle East, Jordan gained it’s independence from British administration in 1946. For most of it’s history, Jordan was ruled by King Hussein. His eldest son, King Abdallah II - - assumed the throne following his father's death in February 1999. He hopes to continue his father's mission to help stabilize the region, while working internally for a more democratic government, freer press and increased equality for women. Hospitality is a cornerstone of Arab life. It is commonplace for Jordanian families, particularly desert dwellers, to welcome strangers into their home. The tradition developed from the harshness of desert life - without food, water and shelter from strangers, most desert travelers would die. Greetings to you in the name of God who calls us to worship. |

| Scripture Reading: Colossians 3:12-17 INT | ||
| Because you are God’s chosen ones, holy and
beloved, clothe yourselves with heartfelt compassion, with kindness,
humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with one another; forgive
whatever grievances you have against one another—forgive in the same way
God has forgiven you. Above all else, put on love, which binds the rest
together and makes them perfect. Let Christ’s peace reign in your hearts since, as members of one body, you have been called to that peace. Dedicate yourselves to thankfulness. Let the Word of Christ, rich as it is, dwell in you. Instruct and admonish one another wisely. Sing gratefully to God from your hearts in psalms, hymns and songs of the Spirit. And whatever you do, whether in speech or in action, do it in the name of Jesus our Savior, giving thanks to God through Christ. |

Prayer for Peace by Mirriam Mann, North Platte, Nebraska |
||
| Eternal God of truth and light, we need to grow
spiritually through Your word. Give us a willing heart and mind to
receive it. We thank you for the knowledge and testimonies of your
prophets in every age. They have strengthened our faith. We thank you
for the Divine Spirit which works in us the desire to know and to do
Your will. We thank you for the Christ who, with our consent, remakes us into His image. We thank you that He revealed to us your action and through all things, and that you want to prosper us in our journey back to you. We thank you for the great beauty and utility of the earth you have created for us. You are our only hope for the sick and suffering society now living upon it. Continue to strengthen us as we spread the “good news” of Christ’s love and forgiveness to them. We ask for an increase in the faith of the church and that many needs will soon be met. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen. |

| The People Pray in Silence | ||
| We confess to you our shortcomings. In your mercy, we ask forgiveness for things left undone or for things which hurt another. | ||
| The People Pray in Silence | ||
| We ask your blessing for those who are oppressed by poverty, disease, exploitation, and prejudice. May each of us realize the worth of another and not add to the distress of anyone. | ||
| The People Pray in Silence | ||
| We pray for the nation of Jordan, their leaders and their people. May they continue working for peace among themselves and with the world. Especially bless the children and those who are unable to care for themselves. | ||
| The People Pray in Silence | ||
| We hold up for your blessing the special concerns of those gathered here this day. | ||
| The People Pray in Silence | ||
| Please use this space to pray for any current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration. | ||
| The People Pray in Silence | ||

| Sending Forth | ||
| We will conclude our service today with a ministry of
music. We invite you to remain in the quiet of this place to pray or
