Call to Prayer

We greet you in the name of Jesus, our Lord, and
thank you for coming today to this sacred place. Each day in this Temple
dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to God for peace in our
world. In addition, each day we pray for a different country.
Today we will hold up the people of Israel in our prayers. Located in
the Middle East, Jewish leaders proclaimed the State of Israel
independent in 1948. However, the country has not been able to establish
peace with its neighbors, and peace seems to be a far off dream.
As we leave the outside world for a few moments we will not forget our
duties there. As we worship together, we will be refreshed to serve anew
as peacemakers for our God. |

| Scripture Reading: John 14:27 NRSV |
| |
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to
you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be
troubled, and do not let them be afraid. |

Prayer for Peace by Douglas E. Porter, Park
Holme, South Australia |

O Lord, our God, in whom we place our trust,
We think upon our dreams that often turn to dust,
As we see life's changes wrought upon the world,
With conflicts arising, and missiles being hurled
By people denied justice, seeking for their right,
No other choice apparent, but to stand and fight.
In desperation acting, as they seek release,
As their leaders procrastinate and fail to sue for peace.
O Lord, we pray, that we might truly see,
All nations of the world, gathered in unity.
That poverty, and hunger, and suffering might be healed
With all mankind acknowledging, that they need to yield,
Unto Your will, Almighty One, O gracious, loving Lord,
And put their trust in You, and Christ the Living Word.
Soften hearts in bonds of love, O Lord we humbly pray,
That peace may truly reign on earth, today and every day.
Amen |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
Lord of all space, we thank you for knowing us. We thank
you for family, friends, those who will be friends, the earth and all
its bounty. Please be with those that are without family and friends. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We confess that we are less than you created us to be and humbly ask
forgiveness. Please guide us with your wisdom. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We rejoice when one step is made toward peace between nations, but know
the journey is long and the steps are many. On this day, please hear our
prayers concerning the people and the nation of Israel. Teach us all to
learn to resolve our differences with our neighbors and live in peace
with the world. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We lament the causes of injustice and seek enlightenment that we may
understand better our part in peace for the world. We would not forget
the need for peace in ourselves, our families, our nation, and our
church. Hear our concerns, we pray. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any
current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world
that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.
|
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
May your truth radiate from this place as we seek to be your people of
peace in the world.
Amen. |

We conclude our service today with Ministry of Music. We
invite you to leave this place quietly or remain to pray or meditate for
as long as you may wish.
Seek peace, and pursue it as you leave this place. We are called to
