Welcome today to this sacred
place and for making time to pray for peace. Each day in this Temple
dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to God for peace in our
world. In addition, each day we pray for a different country.
Today we will remember the people of Ireland in our prayers. Ireland is
located in Western Europe. An island off the coast of Great Britain.
Ireland was controlled by the Celts, Iron Age warriors from eastern
Europe, for 1000 years; they left a legacy of language and culture that
survives today. English power in Ireland was consolidated under Henry
VIII and Elizabeth I; decisions from that time period sowed the seed for
division and dissension that lasted for centuries. After decades of war
between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, they seem to have
finally found peace. The Irish Republic Army turned in its guns and
ended its armed campaign in mid-2005. A power-sharing agreement was
successfully instituted in May 2007. The economy continues to grow,
creating challenges with increased immigration and pressure on Ireland’s
welfare and transport infrastructure.
We search for peace and the well-being and unity of all. And the Lord
answers, “Learn of me,
And listen to my words; walk in the meekness of my Spirit, and you shall
have peace in me.” |

Our Loving Creator and Provider,
We praise you for your loving kindness that extends to all inhabitants
of the earth, to every facet of your vast creation.
We are aware of the great need for peace in numerous countries as well
as our own. Be with all leaders in every land that they may make wise
decisions in dealing with their problems.
Increase their understanding so that they may realize the value of
compromise and reconciliation rather than force and violence.
May they fully comprehend your plan for all humankind and strive for
peace among all nations.
In the name of Your Dear Son, Jesus Christ, we ask it. Amen. |

moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
O God of Peace, we praise you and give thanks for your
gentle, guiding calm in our lives. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We pray for divine forgiveness when we have not been compassionate or
loving or just. We pray for courage to be your presence in the world. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Hear our prayer, Merciful God, as we pray for the leaders of nations and
religions. Be with the decision makers that they may find wisdom to
bring justice and peace as they lead. |

This day we hold to the light of God's love and healing the people of
Ireland. They have survived the story of peacemakers working to bring
the people back together. We ask that you bless the peacemakers in
Ireland that they may build the lasting peace they are longing for in
their country. |
| The People Pray in Silence |

We pray for the special needs and concerns of those gathered here this
day. We confess our shortcomings, and ask for forgiveness. |
