Invitation

It is good to come and share in worship with you in this sacred place. Thank you for your presence. Each day in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to God for peace in our world. In addition, each day we pray for a different country.

Today we will remember the people of French Polynesia in our prayers. An archipelago in the South Pacific, the French annexed various Polynesian island groups during the 19th century, forming French Polynesia. While it may seem a paradise, the islands have seen their share of turmoil. There is now a considerable groundswell of calls for independence from France. Over a 20 year period, ending in 1996, the island group took over internal management, but calls for independence are a permanent fixture on the political map. For the time being, French Polynesia is looking to re-negotiate its status in the European Union in order to redress its economic dependence on France. The Polynesian concept of family is a much broader one than in the West - cousins, uncles, aunts etc are all part of the scene.

May our prayers be not only heard but answered to bring peace to our earth.

Scripture Reading: Doctrine and Covenants 161:2b
Fulfill the purposes of the Temple by making its ministries manifest in your hearts. It was built from your sacrifices and searching over many generations. Let it stand as a towering symbol of a people who knew injustice and strife on the frontier and who now seek the peace of Jesus Christ throughout the world.

Prayer for Peace by Roxann Rice, Independence, Missouri

  Eternal God,

We thank you for your ever present vigil in our lives.

As you walk with us this day, our spirits are stirred, for there are persons in this world who are in need of your love and protection.

It is during this time that peace becomes our cry-- peace instead of war -- peace instead of suffering -- peace instead of doubt.

We consider the cause of peace and where it must begin--here, Savior, within us as you reside. Resolve the personal turmoil among your children.

Guide us, O God, to that peace within us--that which you have called for us to seek since the beginning.

We pray in the name of Jesus, who is our highest example of peace. Amen.

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate.
We thank you for so many things that give us pleasure: beaches, mountains, valleys, fruits and flowers. Indeed, all nature celebrates you, their creator, in desert or rain forest, on mountain or plain, in summer as well as in our winter land. Thank you, O Lord, our God, for all you have done to sustain us.
The People Pray in Silence
We remember the poor, the dispossessed, the rich, the black, the white, all the peoples of the earth whatever their nation, color, or creed. May we all know peace, Great God.
The People Pray in Silence
May national pride for our country be tempered with the awareness of injustice that rampant consumerism fosters. May our eyes be open and our spirits willing to serve you by curbing our wants, O God, so that there will be enough and to spare for all your people.
The People Pray in Silence
Thank you for the people who dwell in French Polynesia, for in them we see a reflection of God. May they know the peace that you can bring to their lives. This day, make us aware that all your people are to be loved and handled with care.
The People Pray in Silence
We honor and praise you for the Prince of Peace. May his life enrich ours as we align our desires with your plan for peace in our world. Bless us and hear our confessions and petitions we humbly pray.
The People Pray in Silence
Please use this space to pray for any current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.
The People Pray in Silence
May the praise and the honor and the glory be yours forever and ever. Amen.
