Gathering in Silence
Call to Prayer
Lighting of CandleInvitation |

We greet you in the name of
Jesus Christ, our Savior, and welcome today to this sacred place. Each
day in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to God for
peace in our world. In addition, each day we pray for a different
country.
Today we will lift up the people of the Dominican Republic in our
prayers. The Dominican Republic is located in the Caribbean. In 1865,
the Spanish crown formally annulled all claims to the island, and it has
been independent ever since. It has, however, struggled with corruption
and authoritarianism. Recent years have found its citizens struggling
with the devastation wreaked by the seasonal hurricanes and with civil
unrest caused in response to the government’s economic policies,
particularly in regard to increasing prices and power cuts.
We greet you in the name of God who is the giver of all. It is the
creator of light and goodness that we worship and praise today as we
pray for peace in our world. |

| Scripture Reading: Psalm 85:8, 10-13 IP |
| |
I will listen to what you have to say,
Adonai—
a voice that speaks of peace,
Love and faithfulness have met;
justice and peace have embraced.
Fidelity will sprout from the earth
and justice will lean down from heaven.
Our God will give us what is good,
and our land will yield its harvest.
Justice will march before you, Adonai,
and peace will prepare the way for your steps. |

Prayer for Peace by Ms. Jimmie L. Radliff,
Spring, Texas |
| |
Almighty God of all,
Through the cleansing power
of Thy pardon and love,
we seek to serve Thee.
Help us strengthen our limbs, our wits,
our tools and temporal means
for this service.
In the face of hate and violence,
help us to be the smile of love
and the strength of meekness.
In the face of physical hunger
and helpless thirst for wisdom,
may we be tears of compassion,
providers of sustenance,
and the teachers of Thy laws.
In the face of hopelessness and apathy,
challenge us to joyful demonstration
of Kingdom living.
Through the power of the Prince of Peace, we pray. Amen. |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
Let us join in a common confession of our sins. For the
arrogance of our pride of race, of nation, and of class, by which we put
down others not of our kind and thus break the community of the human
family, in defiance of your will, we ask forgiveness. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |

| Sending Forth |
| |
We conclude our service today with Ministry of Music.
Feel free to remain to pray or meditate in the quiet of this place for
as long as you may wish.
Let us hold our tongues when it would hurt another. Let us reserve
judgement when our own selfish interests would prevail. Let us promote
justice among our families, our communities, all nations, and peoples of
the earth. The God of light and knowledge will bless our efforts. Let us
go in peace. Amen. |
