Call to Prayer
Lighting of CandleInvitation |

Good afternoon, and welcome to
this time of prayer for peace in this sacred place. Each day in this
sacred space, we pray to God for peace in our world. In addition, each
day we pray for a different country.
Today we will remember the people of Bahrain in our prayers. Bahrain is
a tiny country located in the Arabian peninsula. It has had close ties
with Great Britain since the 1830s, although it gained full independence
in 1971. Oil money has brought prosperity to the country, as has
shipyard work and the opening of the King Fahd Causeway between Bahrain
and Saudi Arabia. In 2001, a national charter for constitutional reforms
was endorsed by the country’s first ever national referendum, and in
2002, Bahrain was declared a constitutional monarchy
We greet you in God's name and call your attention to the lighted peace
candle as a symbol of our expectation of peace. May the light sent from
God shine in the darkness to show us the way to peace. |

| Scripture Reading: Isaiah 55:12 NRSV |
| |
For ye shall go out with joy, and be led
forth with peace; the mountains and the hills shall break forth before
you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. |

Prayer for Peace by St. Francis of Assisi |
| |
Lord, make me a channel of Thy peace, that where there
is hatred I may bring love; that where there is wrong, I may bring the
spirit of forgiveness; that where there is doubt, I may bring faith;
that where there is error, I may bring truth; that where there is
discord, I may bring harmony; that where there is despair, I may bring
hope; that where there are shadows, I may bring light; that where there
is sadness, I may bring joy.
Lord, grant that I may seek to comfort rather than to be comforted; to
understand than to be understood; to love than to be loved; for it is by
forgetting self that one finds; it is by dying that one awakens to
eternal life. Amen. |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
God of grace and God of glory, we come to you with
praise and thanksgiving. We praise you for all your creation and majesty
and wisdom. We thank you for being mindful of us, for giving us choices,
for challenging us to consider all our brothers and sisters in the
world, and for not resting until equality is a way of life for all. |
| The People Pray in Silence |

We pray today for the people of Bahrain. Be with those who work for
peace and justice in their country. Bless them with hope and strength to
bring to pass their vision of peace. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We would not forget those who are gathered here this day. Enlarge our
souls that we may hold all the blessings you would pour upon us. Accept
our desires to be your peacemakers in those places where we have
influence. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Make us worthy, Lord, to serve those throughout the world who live and
die in poverty and hunger. Give them, through our hands, this day their
daily bread, and by our understanding love, give peace and joy. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any
current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world
that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.

In the name of Jesus, who taught us of peace, we pray. Amen. |

| Sending Forth |
| |
We conclude our service today with ministry of music. We
invite you to remain in the quiet of this place to pray or meditate for
as long as you may wish.
May the Peace of Christ Jesus go with you as you share his peace. Amen. |
