Invitation

It is good to greet you here in this sacred place to worship. May the spirit of the Lord be with us as we pray in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace. In addition, each day we pray for a different country.

Today we will hold up the people of the United Kingdom in our prayers. Located in western Europe, the first half of the 20th century saw the United Kingdom's strength seriously depleted in two World Wars. The second half witnessed the United Kingdom rebuilding itself into a modern and prosperous European nation. As one of five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, a founding member of NATO, and of the Commonwealth, the United Kingdom pursues a global approach to foreign policy; it currently is weighing the degree of its integration with continental Europe. A member of the European Union, it chose to remain outside of the European Monetary Union for the time being. Constitutional reform is also a significant issue. Regional assemblies with varying degrees of power opened in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland in 1999.

Let us unite as one in supplication to our God and Savior as we pray for peace in our day and for our time.

Scripture Reading: Doctrine and Covenants 163:11a
God is calling for a prophetic community to emerge, drawn from the nations of the world, that is characterized by uncommon devotion to the compassion and peace of God revealed in Jesus Christ. Through divine grace and wisdom, this faith community has been given abundant gifts, resources, and opportunities to equip it to become such a people. Chief among these is the power of community in Christ expressed locally in distinctive fashions
while upholding a unity of vision, foundational beliefs, and mission throughout the world.

Prayer for Peace by Ralph Holmes, Nottinghamshire, England

Our most gracious God, as we meet together to bring our devotions, we praise your Holy Name and give thanks for your abiding presence in our lives.

We live in a beautiful world, created for our pleasure and joy, but because of sicknesses of mind and body; because of selfishness and greed, there is physical, mental and spiritual hunger and poverty abroad.

We pray not only for the absence of conflict but also for the presence of your Spirit among the nations. We look to you, O God, as our source of strength and power to show us the way of peace, that as instruments in your hands, we, your people, may be used as agents of peace.

May there be a greater understanding by those in authority of the needs of your people everywhere; that your Holy Spirit might empower and stir them to strive towards unity under the banner of your love. Through Jesus Christ our Lord we pray. Amen.

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate.
O God, you are the way of peace. Come into the brokenness of our lives and our land with your healing love.
The People Pray in Silence
Help us to be willing to bow before you in true repentance, and to bow to one another in real forgiveness. By the fire of your Holy Spirit, melt our hard hearts and consume the pride and prejudice which separate us.
The People Pray in Silence
Be with the people of the United Kingdom. Fill them and us, O Lord, with your perfect love which casts out fear and bind us together in Divine unity.
The People Pray in Silence
We thank you and praise you for the gift of our Lord Jesus, for love that sustains us, for wisdom that directs us, and for desire that beckons us toward peace in our world.
The People Pray in Silence
Please use this space to pray for any current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.
The People Pray in Silence
In the name of Jesus the Christ we pray. Amen.

Sending Forth
We conclude our service today with Ministry of Music. We invite you to remain in the quiet of this place to pray or meditate for as long as you may wish.

May your lives reflect the light of Christ Jesus as you go into the world and be peacemakers. Amen.
