Invitation

We welcome you today to this quiet, sacred place. Each day in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to God for peace in our world. In addition, each day we pray for a different country.

Today we will hold up the people of Saint Lucia in our prayers. Saint Lucia is located in the Caribbean. A pawn between France and Great Britain for many years, St. Lucia gained full independence as a member of the British Commonwealth in 1979. Bananas were an important export crop until the “Banana Wars” of the 1990s which resulted in decisions impacting the local farmers’ ability to compete against larger South American banana producers. As a result, St. Lucia’s export revenue has declined, and unemployment is on the rise. Tourism continues to boom, although construction has not always followed environmentally sound guidelines.

Seldom does God shout to get our attention often just a whisper. Let us listen ever so closely. God is calling ever so urgently.

Scripture Reading: Jeremiah 29:4 11 NRSV
Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, “Build houses and live in them; seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare. I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord, “plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

Prayer for Peace by Guy W. Stewart, Independence, Missouri

Dear Lord, we gather together this day to worship you in the name of Jesus Christ, your Only Begotten Son, our personal savior. Let our voices be lifted in praise and adoration and may our souls be filled with joy, for surely we have been blessed through your infinite love and mercy.

As a result of your many blessings in our lives, Lord, we would humbly ask you to renew our hearts as servants. Lord, forgive us when we have taken your blessings for granted and have failed to share them with all we meet.

Lord, touch our hearts today. May we leave this sanctuary committed to allowing your fruits of love to come forth and be a blessing to all we meet along life’s journey.

Through Jesus Christ, the “blessed one” who freely wants to give to all, we would worship him in the spirit of truth and righteousness, through love, joy, hope and peace. Amen.
