Gathering in Silence
Call to Prayer
Lighting of CandleInvitation |
| |
Welcome today to this sacred
place. Each day in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we
pray to God for peace in our world. In addition, each day we pray for a
different country.
Today we will hold up the people of Kenya in our prayers. Located in
Eastern Africa, there are more than 70 tribal groups among the Africans
in Kenya. English and Swahili are the languages taught throughout the
country, but there are many other tribal languages. Kenya is noted for
its abundant wildlife, and tourism has brought many to experience
wildlife safaris. HIV and AIDS have affected virtually all the lives of
Kenya, and causes problems of survival for the children left behind.
They are currently experiencing political violence because of the tribal
conflicts in their government, though in the past they have been one of
the most stable countries in Africa.
Thank you for coming to share in this service of prayer for peace. We
have lighted this candle as a symbol of our commitment to a just and
peaceful world. May the peace of God who has called us here guide our
worship. |

Psalms |

Know that those who love Our God
have been set apart by divine will—
Our God will hear me when I call!
Tremble, and stop your sinning;
search your heart,
alone and silent in your room.
Offer sacrifices of justice,
and put your trust in Our God.
So many are asking,
"Does good even exist anymore?"
Let the light of your face, Adonai,
shine on us!
You put joy in my heart—
a joy greater than being full of bread and new wine.
In peace I'll lie down,
in peace I will sleep:
for you alone, Adonai,
keep me perfectly safe. |

Prayer for Peace by Mary Ooko, Nairobi, Kenya |

Our almighty Father in Heaven, you are the Father of our
ancestors and you know us best. For this reason we thank you.
We want to present ourselves for your use as instruments of peace. We
are helpless. We do not know the best way how and therefore we ask for
your wisdom and guidance.
The need is great among people of all ages. Your children are crying for
their Father’s attention. Pour your mercy upon us. Shower us with the
Holy Spirit so that we may be reminded of the big responsibility which
we are very much willing to share with you.
Give us a special kind of endurance in our daily service to others and
in our prayers. May the glory of your creation be manifested in all that
we do and say. In the name of Your only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ.
Amen. |
