Call to Prayer
Lighting of CandleInvitation |
| |
We greet you in the name of God
who calls us to peace. Welcome today to this sacred place. Each day in
this Temple, we pray to God for peace in our world. In addition, each
day we pray for a different country.
Today we will hold up the people of Kazakhstan in our prayers. Located
in central Asia, Kazakhstan is second in size only to Russia among the
former Soviet Republics. Kazakhstan became a Soviet Republic in 1936.
Independence in 1991 caused many newcomers to emigrate. Current issues
include: developing a cohesive national identity; expanding the
development of the country's vast energy resources and exporting them to
world markets; achieving a sustainable economic growth outside the oil,
gas, and mining sectors; and strengthening relations with neighboring
states and other foreign powers. The country is enjoying strong economic
growth because of its large oil, gas, and mineral reserves.
As we worship together, let us share Jesus’ message of hope and
restoration for creation. |

| Scripture Reading: Isaiah 11: 1-6 adapted |
| |
A shoot will come up from the stump of
Jesse; from his roots a branch will bear fruit.
The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him—the Spirit of wisdom and of
understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power, the Spirit of
knowledge, and of the fear of the Lord—and he will delight in the fear
of the Lord.
He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, with his ears; but with
righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give
decisions for the poor of the earth.
The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the
goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and the little
child will lead them. |

Prayer for Peace by L. Dean Carper,

Our God and our Father,
We acknowledge your supreme power over all nations of every race. Help
us to recognize your love for all people. May we strive to be
instruments in your hands to be a part of the peace building process.
Where hate and fear divide the nations may tenderness and hope unite.
May your love heal the physical and emotional scars of this strife-torn
world.
Remove the shroud that limits our vision of your eternal purpose and the
building of your kingdom. Remove from us the blinders that keep us from
seeing others as you see them.
With hope, faith, and courage may we always strive to replace scorn and
bigotry with truthfulness and righteousness.
Deliver every nation from the grip of the tyranny of war and poverty. We
look forward to the day when these plagues will be no more and the
nations shall beat swords into plowshares.
Grant us your peace and let it begin with us. Amen. |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
God of all the earth and those who dwell thereon, we
pray that the light of peace will heal the dark places of the earth. We
pray for those who suffer the destruction and desolation of war and
human selfishness. |

We hold to your light of love and healing the children, youth, and
adults of Kazakhstan. Give them strength as they work to rebuild their
nation into one where peace and justice for all are known. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We pray for courage to be your presence in actions of justice,
tenderness, and love. We ask for divine forgiveness when we have not
been compassionate or loving or just. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Hear us, O God, as we pray for all who are victims of abuse, neglect,
hatred, and war. May your light fill all the world. Help us not to
perpetrate abuse, neglect, hate, nor to resort to violence to settle our
differences. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We thank you God that in the midst of incredible difficulties many
