We greet you in the name of the
Prince of Peace who calls us to worship. Each day in this Temple
dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to God for peace in our
world. In addition, each day we pray for a different country.
Today we will hold up the people of Uganda in our prayers. Located in
Eastern Africa, Uganda achieved independence from the United Kingdom in
1962. Before independence, Uganda was a prosperous and cohesive country.
Its great beauty led Winston Churchill to refer to it as the 'Pearl of
Africa', but by the mid-1980s Uganda lay shattered and bankrupt. Despite
the brutality of its history, Ugandans appear to have weathered the
storm remarkably well. Kampala is now the modern, bustling capital of a
new Uganda, a country with one of the fastest growing economies in
Africa. Fertile soil keeps famine at bay and coffee plantations
flourishing, but AIDS-epidemic in some areas-is now Uganda's greatest
enemy. Uganda's population is made up of a complex and diverse range of
tribes. Each tribe has its musical history; songs that are passed down
from generation to generation.
Let us not forget the part we must play in the search for peace in our
time and for our day. We pray to you, Lord God, that you will receive
us, in the name of Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen. |

| Scripture Reading: Doctrine and Covenants 163:2a |
| |
Jesus Christ, the embodiment of God’s
shalom, invites all people to come and receive divine peace in the midst
of the difficult questions and struggles of life. Follow Christ in the
way that leads to God’s peace and discover the blessings of all the
dimensions of salvation. |

Prayer for Peace Author Unknown |

Ever Living, Ever Loving Presence we call "God", we,
your created humankind, come before you into communion with you and each
other, seeking empowerment to reflect you - yes, to incarnate your love,
your nature, your peace.
Created in your image, we would be loving. As agents of your healing
power, we would be whole. As ministers of your grace, we would exemplify
servanthood.
Created that we might have joy, we would praise with elation; accepting
all others as you accept us, with unconditional love.
Healed by your Grace, we would be whole and thus enabled to become true
instruments of your PEACE. |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
We praise you, God, for this day and its blessings, for
our family and friends who sustain us, for abilities to earn our daily
bread, and for the gift of Jesus our Christ who ever leads us toward
peace. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We bow before you in repentance of our sins. Help us to be ever more
aware of those things we should omit from our lives, as well as those
actions we should add to our living. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We especially ask your blessing on the nation and the people of Uganda.
Please guide and direct the leaders of this nation that they might build
their land into one of peace and justice. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We are aware of inequalities in our world. Touch the lives of world
leaders that they will make wise decisions to benefit all nations—not
just their own. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We ask your blessing on the concerns and
needs of all gathered here this day. Give us guidance to make good
choices for peace in our lives. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any current concern or event in our
community, city, state, nation or world that you feel needs to be held
up to God for prayerful consideration. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Hear our prayer, O Lord, and in your mercy answer us. Amen. |
| |
| Sending Forth |
| |
We conclude our service for today with ministry of
music. We invite you to remain in the quiet of this place to pray or
meditate for as long as you may wish.
Let us go forth and be the peacemakers and peacekeepers that we are
called to be. Christ, our peace, will guide you and bless you. Amen. |
