Welcome today to this time of
prayer, and thank you for joining us. Each day in this Temple dedicated
to the pursuit of peace, we pray to God for peace in our world. In
addition, each day we pray for a different country.
Today we will hold up the people of India in our prayers. Located in
Southern Asia, the Indian subcontinent was the pride of the British
Empire until the mid-20th century. Guided by Mahatma Gandhi, Indians won
nationhood in 1947. Fundamental concerns in India include an ongoing
dispute with Pakistan over Kashmir, massive overpopulation,
environmental degradation, extensive poverty, and ethnic strife, all
this despite impressive gains in economic investment and output. India
has a growing middle class and has made great strides in engineering and
information technology.
Let us unite as one in supplication to our God and Savior as we pray for
peace in our day and for our time. |

The mountains shall depart and the hills be
removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the
covenant of my peace be removed, saith the Lord that hath mercy on thee. |

Prayer for Peace by Linda Schall, Bath,
Michigan |

Lord, show me the way to bring peace to this troubled
community that I live in. Awaken the concern in my soul so that I may
not stand by unaware of my surroundings. Let me shout my disapproval of
the violence and drugs through compassion. Give me the courage to listen
to people in their times of confusion. Help me to give them the answers
they are in search of to make wise decisions. Show me the way to be a
good friend.
Remind us to pray continually for those in other countries who live in
the midst of everyday violence and oppression. Open our eyes to other
ways of promoting peace. We feel there is no way for us to help them
because of the distance between our countries, but we know prayer
changes things. Let us pray and listen for your voice to guide us to new
possibilities to help.
Fashion us into peacemakers. Let our labors begin today in our own
communities.
In Christ's name and for peace we pray. Amen |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
Our Father, you are the way of peace. Come into the
brokenness of our lives and our land with your healing love. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Help us to be willing to bow before you in true repentance, and to bow
to one another in real forgiveness. By the fire of your Holy Spirit,
melt our hard hearts and consume the pride and prejudice which separate
us. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Be with the people of India and the peacemakers there. Fill them and us,
O Lord, with your perfect love which casts out fear and bind us together
in Divine unity. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We thank you and praise you, God, for love that sustains us, for wisdom
that directs us, and for desire that beckons us toward peace in our
world. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any
current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world
that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.

| Sending Forth |

We conclude our service today with ministry of music. We
invite you to remain in the quiet of this place to pray or meditate for
as long as you may wish.
The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face to shine upon
you and be gracious to you. The Lord look upon you with favor and give
you peace. Go in peace. Amen. |
