The 19th annual Peace Colloquy will explore nuclear questions, complexities involved in disarmament, and our role as a peacemaking church. Programming will explore the theme from perspectives for multiple ages.
Presentation of the Community of Christ International Peace Award will begin the Colloquy. Dr. Tadatoshi Akiba, advocate for global nuclear disarmament, will receive the award at the opening of the Peace Colloquy. The award ceremony will be webcast live from the Temple in Independence, Missouri at 7:30 p.m. (CDT) Friday, October 26 at www.CofChrist.org.
Dr. Akiba served three consecutive terms as mayor of Hiroshima and worked to make it an “International Peace Culture City.” At the same time, he served as president of Mayors for Peace. He grew the organization from 470 member cities in 1999 to 4,402 by 2010.
