Keynotes at the Peace Colloquy
What Is a Signal Community?
The Community of Christ tradition has historically called these kinds of
communities Zion, or local expressions of the kingdom of God on earth. What then
should Zion look like today amid the issues of our time? Might you commit to
being part of a signal community? The following keynotes explore these questions.

“The Story of Koinonia” Bren Dubay (director) and Norris Harris (chaplain) will speak on the story of
Koinonia, which began in 1942 in Americus, Georgia, as an intentional Christian
community. From the beginning, Koinonia (from the Greek word for fellowship)
sought to provide a “demonstration plot” for the kingdom of God, particularly in
equality between races. Koinonia is also the story of a community losing its way
and finding renewal again. Habitat for Humanity began in Koinonia.
