Dr. Howard Zehr is co-director of the Center for Justice and Peace Building at Eastern Mennonite University in Virginia. He is an internationally known practitioner, writer, lecturer and teacher in the field of criminal justice, and is one the founders of the contemporary restorative justice movement. Dr. Zehr will receive the 2006 Community of Christ International Peace Award at the colloquy.
Judge Bria Huculak serves on the Saskatchewan Provincial Court, Canada. Her work on restorative justice includes initiating sentencing circles, helping communities develop restorative justice practices, consulting with governments, writing, and teaching.
Azim N. Khamisa's 20-year old son, Tariq, was murdered in 1995 by eighth grader Tony Hicks in San Diego, CA. He chose the path of forgiveness rather than retribution when he saw there were “victims” at both ends of the gun. Azim is a devout Muslim and gives a human face to a remarkable restorative justice story told in his award-winning book, Azim’s Bardo: A Father’s Journey from Murder to Forgiveness.
Rick Sarre is professor of law and criminal justice at the University of South Australia–Adelaide and writes, researches, and teaches in the field of restorative justice. He also currently serves as a Community of Christ self-supporting pastor.
Chief Justice Michael A. Wolff of the Supreme Court of Missouri, also chairs the Missouri Sentencing Advisory Commission. He taught at the St. Louis University School of Law for 23 years.
