International Peace Award to Honor Bread for the World

Its passionate advocacy and achievements in overcoming hunger and poverty will be honored with the 21st Community of Christ International Peace Award.

All are invited October 24 at 7:30 p.m. (CDT) to the peace award ceremony, which will be webcast live in English, French, and Spanish from the Temple in Independence, Missouri. The Rev. David Beckmann, Bread for the World president, will give an acceptance address. This event also kicks-off the annual Peace Colloquy, themed “Poverty: God Weeps.”

Bread for the World is a nonpartisan, ecumenical organization advocating for the best US policies and programs to overcome hunger and poverty. For 36 years Community of Christ has enjoyed a mutually beneficial partnership with Bread for the World. The church’s World Hunger-Tangible Love Team has worked closely with the organization, and members have served on the board of directors. Bread for the World is an invaluable inspiration for advocacy.
