A. Disciples’ Generous Response Story: World

Community of Christ—YAK: Mobile Giftedness

Each Sunday we are invited to “share equally” with Mission Tithes for local and world ministries. These stories are provided to keep us in touch with how your contributions to Mission Tithes are spreading the peace of Jesus Christ.

This story, Gifted with the Holy Spirit, is about a group of young adults from around the world who share a common vision for using technology to share the gospel and connect young adults throughout the Community of Christ. The product of this group’s efforts is a twenty-minute monthly podcast. Young Adult Koinonia (pronounced coy-no-NEE-uh), or the YAK podcast, is similar to a radio show that can be downloaded at any time and listened to on a computer or a portable MP3 player such as an iPod. Koinonia is a Greek word used in the New Testament that means “community.” This young adult team felt a calling to use their giftedness to develop a way for mobile young adults in different parts of the world to stay connected with the church, as well as provide an entry point for young adult seekers into church life. The current episodes of the YAK podcast feature contributors from areas of the church such as Australia, Kenya, Canada, and various parts of the United States. The podcast is available for free download from either iTunes or www.youngadultkoinonia.org.

The YAK podcast is made possible by contributions to World Mission Tithes. Production and editorial direction are overseen by the young adult ministries of Central and Midlands Mission Centers. Contributions to World Mission Tithes helped purchase recording and editing equipment as well as develop infrastructure to publish and syndicate the podcast. Innovative ministries such as this, made possible by generosity, not only allow young adults to express their discipleship in creative ways, but also creates new pathways for the proclamation of a relevant gospel message. Thank you for responding faithfully by sharing so very generously.—John Chatburn, young adult minister, Central and Midlands Mission Centers

C. Blessing on Our Offering

From Isaiah 49:6 (NRSV), we read:

I will give you as a light to the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.

Sharing our Mission Tithes equally between local and world ministries brings joy into our lives. Let us share in the prayer of blessing for our offering.
