A. Disciples’ Generous Response Story: World

Central Africa Mission Center—Sharing Christ’s Peace

Each Sunday we are invited to “share equally” with Mission Tithes for local and world ministries. These stories are provided to keep us in touch with how your contributions to Mission Tithes are spreading the peace of Jesus Christ.

This story, Sharing Christ’s Peace, takes us to the Central Africa Mission Center, part of Apostle Bunda Chibwe’s Africa and Haiti Mission Field. Several years ago, African staff decided it was time to begin sharing the peace of Jesus Christ in the Republic of Congo, specifically in its capital city, Brazzaville. A Community of Christ congregation was formed. Due to Republic of Congo law, which requires any church to hold ‘real estate,’ further support was received to build a church in Brazzaville. Support for the initial ‘church planting project’ to build a church building has resulted in not one but two congregations now in Congo Brazza (the locals’ name for their country and the capital city).

Just across the Congo River, there are many congregations in Kinshasa, the capital city of Democratic Republic of Congo. In fact there are over 100 congregations in Democratic Republic of Congo. The Central Africa Mission Center is comprised of these two ‘Congo’ countries. In November 2007, twelve leaders from Brazzaville and more than 70 leaders from Kinshasa and several other church plant congregations spent three full days of training that focused on specific Community of Christ topics. The Central Africa Mission Center continues to benefit from financial support granted to it from World Ministries Mission Tithes. Thank you for responding faithfully by sharing so very generously.—Malcolm Stephenson, assistant to the apostle for Africa

C. Blessing on Our Offering

From John 4:14 (NRSV), we read:

Jesus said…those who drink of the water that I will give them will never be thirsty. The water I will give them will become in them a spring of water gushing up to eternal life.Sharing our Mission Tithes equally between local and world ministries changes our lives and those who receive the blessings from it. Let us share in the prayer of blessing for our offering.
