Biblical Studies Award

Congratulations to John Glaser, head of Hispanic Leadership Development. In July John received the Rockdale Foundation Award for Academic Achievement in the Field of Biblical Studies from the Hispanic Summer Program, an ecumenical program in religion and theology held this year at the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary.

Summer Flex Schedule

Sunday, August 31 is the final day for the summer flex schedule. All staff will return to normal 5-day work schedules on Tuesday, September 2. We hope everyone enjoyed their summer schedules.

Welcome to New IHQ Staff

  • Mary Gill – Mary is the new Lifelong Discipleship Formation Specialist and will begin her responsibilities on September 2.

  • Larry Cain – Larry rejoins us a network technician for the Technology Support Team.

  • Daniel Gregory – Daniel is an intern who will be working with Jeanette Hicks and Andrew Bolton assisting with the 2008 Peace Colloquy.

  • Megan Pierce – Megan is an intern who will be working with WorldService Corps and Richard Betts.

Peace Support Network

Register for Peace Colloquy by September 5 and Save!

The Peace Colloquy focused on “Signal Communities: Hope of Zion” will be held October 3–5. IHQ staff and volunteers receive a 50% discount on registration and some are eligible for full reimbursement. The signal community Koinonia from Americus, Georgia, will be honored with the Community of Christ International Peace Award on Friday, October 3, for their efforts to actively seek to embody peacemaking. Visit www.CofChrist.org/PeaceColloquy/ for full event information

Independence Peace Vigil on United Nations Peace Day

All are invited to join with people around the world in celebrating the United Nations International Day of Peace on Sunday, September 21 with a peace vigil from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the United Nations Peace Plaza at Lexington and Walnut just off the Independence Square.

Say a prayer and light a candle for peace every hour with musicians and guest speakers throughout the peace vigil on the United Nations International Day of Peace. A special worship will be held in the Community of Christ Temple from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Learn more at www.CofChrist.org/news/2008/aug/vigil.asp.

2008 Staff Recognition Celebration

Community of Christ International Headquarters is blessed with many talented employees and volunteers who contribute to our mission to proclaim Jesus Christ and promote communities of joy, hope, love, and peace.

Everyone is invited to attend a celebration on Thursday, September 11 at 3:00 p.m. in the Auditorium lower assembly room. During this gathering we will recognize employees and volunteers celebrating milestone anniversaries. A reception will follow to share in fellowship with your colleagues.

Hiroshima-Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Photo Poster Exhibition

Community of Christ Temple will host a Hiroshima-Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Photo Poster Exhibition in the USA from September 1-14. The travelling exhibit is presented by the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum through PeaceWorks Kansas City. All are invited to view the exhibit from 9 a.m.–5 p.m. with limited hours on Labor Day from 10 a.m.–4 p.m. and Sundays from 1:00–4 p.m. All are invited on Friday, September 5 at 7:00 p.m. for a reception followed by a panel discussion with a delegation of four people from Japan.
