connecting the Community of Christ staff community
Extended WCLC Meetings
The Extended World Church Leadership Council met December 10-14. Participants
from all over the church came together to share cultural and theological
perspectives, spending time focusing on foundational questions before the
church. More than a dozen countries, and more cultures, were represented in the
group of over fifty participants. The weather was icy, but the fellowship was
warm as the Council worshiped together and carried on discussion in three
languages.
To read more about the concept of Extended World Church Leadership Council, read
Steve Veazey’s “Upfront” in the November Herald.
Worship .. Adoración .. Adoration
Worship Resources—Year A, is now available in English, Spanish, and French.
The Spanish and French versions are available as a pdf document on the church’s
website. While these language versions are not identical, the central part of
each resource is in keeping with Section 163:11 as we locally express community
in Christ in distinctive fashions while upholding a unity of vision,
foundational beliefs, and mission.

Aliyah
Are congregations in your mission center looking for new Sunday School
materials? Lessons for children and youth that parallel the Doctrine and Covenants 163
commentary series for adults will be available on the church Web site beginning
in January. These monthly lessons will be excellent for church school classes,
junior church, youth group activities, retreats, and other settings.
The new curriculum will engage children and youth in a journey of discovery,
of unpacking the scripture message and exploring it, then repacking it to take
it “on the road.” The experience is the journey, so you’ll probably never hear,
“Are we there yet?”
Congregational LIFE Workshop
The 2008 Congregational LIFE Workshop, July 27–August 1 at Graceland
University, Lamoni, Iowa, will help revive and equip our faithful communities.
Newly formatted to focus on key issues relevant for healthy congregational
life in today’s world, CLW will offer opportunities to explore new ideas and
learning opportunities designed to build community in small and large group
experiences.
Visit www.CofChrist.org/clw/ and see the upcoming January Herald for details
about the schedule, Living Room Groups, formation experiences, and evening
celebrations.
Each congregation is encouraged to send at least two representatives to this
event. Congregations and mission centers are encouraged to budget for leadership
and disciple development opportunities like CLW.
Holiday Open House
Snacks, decorations, and holiday spirit were out in full force at the Holiday
Open House on December 5. A heartfelt thanks to all who participated by
decorating, traveling to various offices, visiting with friends and co-workers,
and hunting for those elusive holiday stamps. A special thanks to Dirk Ellingson
for these great photos.
Mission Tithes Update
The church received an estimated $745,000 in World Ministries Mission Tithes
in October 2007—that is $91,000 less than what was budgeted for the month.
This is the third consecutive month under the goal and, after four months of
the fiscal year, we are about 6.4 percent behind. Please remember our goal of
$10.9 million, which will sustain the ministries of the church and provide for
some expansion of ministries.
We are deeply grateful to our faithful givers for all that you do. Thank you!
We wish you a blessed new year. To read about the ministries you make possible
with your contributions, visit
www.CofChrist.org/offertory.
Due to manual reporting by some jurisdictions, actual income may take several
months to finalize. Numbers provided are estimates based on reports received.
Get Involved in Our Heritage
Do you have an interest in Community of Christ history? Do you interact
easily with people from various faith traditions? Would you like to help the
community understand more about our church artifacts?
If these questions caught your interest, you would make a perfect candidate
to volunteer in the Temple museum. For more details please contact Volunteer
Resource Ministries at 1 800 825 2806, ext. 2020; e-mail:
Volunteer@CofChrist.org,
or visit us on the web at www.CofChrist.org/volunteers/. Other volunteer
opportunities are also available.
All Staff Directory
The Web Updates team is developing a new staff directory for the church's
website. Visit
www.CofChrist.org/directory/allstaff.asp and check that the contact
information listed for you is correct.
Temple Sanctuary Renovations
Renovations in the Sanctuary and Worshipers’ Path will enhance the
Independence, Missouri, Temple experience. After 14 years of daily use, earnings
from the Temple Endowment Fund will pay to replace worn carpet and tile and
refinish the wood rostrum. The project has begun and is expected to be complete
near the end of April. Beginning January 8, these spaces will be closed.
The Daily Prayer for Peace will be in the Temple Meditation Chapel and all
public organ recitals will be in the Auditorium. Tours will be adapted to offer
other visual representation of these areas. Updates will be shared as the
project advances. See
www.CofChrist.org/news/2007/dec07/temple.asp or the upcoming January Herald
news for more details.
January Enrichment Group Meetings
Enrichment Group meetings in January are scheduled for Wednesday, January 9,
when Wim van Klinken, Director of International Headquarters, will meet with
each group.
