The Fiscal Year (FY) 2004 World Ministries Budget as approved by the World
Church Finance Board on June 8, 2003, is presented here and in the September
2003 Herald.
The World Ministries Budget represents our annual plan to carry out the
mission of the Community of Christ. You will see the sources (income) and uses
(expenses) we anticipate for mission in FY 2004. The greatest uncertainty in
this plan is the first income line: World Ministries Mission Tithes. Through the
generous sharing of disciples in FY 2003, $10.2M (current estimate) was
contributed for World Ministries. We are hoping that this amount in FY 2004 will
grow as people respond to God’s grace and love. Thus in FY 2004, we have
planned for a $700,000 increase, for a total contribution of $10.9M to World
Ministries Mission Tithes.
We hope that through the numbers, pictures, and snippets of information you
will appreciate how we have applied our “treasures ” toward the ministries
and services that are at the “heart” of our mission. With so much
opportunity and need for the proclamation of Jesus Christ and the promotion of
communities of joy, hope, love, and peace, the impact that we can make always
seems limited. At the same time, the testimonies of those whose lives are
changing because of their encounters and journeys in the Community of Christ
provide us affirmation and hope of God’s continued work with and through us.
Our prayer is that your hearts will be stirred as you review the budget, and
experience through the pictures and facts just a small subset of the ministries
that will be accomplished through this $28.1M budget. We also pray that you will
generously share of your witness and resources to provide more fully and
joyfully for the great work to which all are called.
