Contributions to
Community of Christ Oblation and World Hunger Funds will provide flood relief
in Pakistan. Aid of $25,000 was sent through Mercy Corps.
Mercy Corps is running two mobile health
units and supplying clean water and hygiene kits to tens of thousands of
marooned residents.
Alex Kahtava, World
Hunger/Tangible Love Team lead, said, “An essential element of the World
Hunger Fund’s mission focuses on providing immediate assistance to persons
suffering as a result of disasters, like the flooding in Pakistan.”
Monsoon rains began
there in late July. Flooding started in the north and continued to move south
through the country. News reports indicate entire villages submerged and homes
filled with mud, leaving millions in need of emergency shelter. Water is
polluted and at least 1,500 people have died. Infrastructure is destroyed and
people struggling in remote areas are exceptionally difficult to reach.
“Mercy Corps is
distributing emergency food kits containing rice, lentils, cooking oil,
powdered milk, and other food staples to thousands of families in devastated
areas,” explained Alex. “I am grateful that as a result of the generous giving
by so many we are able to help provide the means whereby those in need can
experience hope.”
Thanks to the generous
support of Oblation and World Hunger Fund contributors, Community of Christ is
able to respond as a worldwide church to needs in Pakistan. Thank you for
sharing this news with others, offering prayers, and giving generously.
