Open Submissions Closing Soon

Time is dwindling for contributions to Community of Christ’s new hymnal. The Hymnal Project’s open-submission phase, active since October 2008, will close April 15.

We have received many suggestions for hymn texts, tunes, and a variety of well-written and arranged original material. The call to participate has echoed within Community of Christ and across the ecumenical spectrum of hymn writers and composers. Submissions include wonderful texts that deal with the sacraments, justice and peace, earth stewardship, sanctuary, calling, discipleship, and elimination of poverty.

We urge you to continue to send any beloved hymn or song that speaks to Community of Christ’s identity, message, mission, and beliefs. More information can be found at www.CofChrist.org/hymnal or by contacting Lauren Hall.

Do not miss this opportunity to help shape the next hymnal! It will be stronger because of your input. To have the hymnal resources to you by 2013, the open-submission deadline of April 15 will be strictly enforced. For Community of Christ, the project is another milestone in realizing an important goal of singing peace and promoting God’s shalom.
