The Temple Continues
to Come to Life
Several great events are scheduled at the Temple in 2009: the
International Youth Forum, International Women’s Gathering, the Community of
Christ International Peace Award ceremony, the 16th annual Peace Colloquy, and
more.
A Temple Experience
Events May 31 and August 30 will allow people to experience the Temple as a
life-giving symbol. These holistic events will integrate worship, formation, and
praxis for all ages. The First Presidency and other World Church leaders will
participate.
These events are being developed to shape new opportunities to
help us realize the vision in Doctrine and Covenants 163:8c. These events will
serve as a model for congregations throughout the world to utilize in enhancing
ministry and reaching out in new ways. Watch the Herald and
www.CofChrist.org for more information.
Audio Tours
Volunteer guides have shared our identity, mission, and message with Temple
visitors since the 1990s. Tours include an introductory video, being still in
the chapel that overlooks the meditation garden, going up the worshiper’s path
to enter the sanctuary, and reflecting on works of art from around the world
while listening to the church story. There also are opportunities to join in the
Daily Prayer for Peace and visit the Temple Museum and Bookstore.
A new option is expected by April with audio tours. With a map
and a tour wand, visitors will be able to push a button at specific Temple
locations to hear more about this sacred space. There also will be opportunities
to listen to scriptural vignettes, hear artists describe their work, and enjoy
clips of organ and choral music.
Audio tours were made possible thanks to the generous gift of a
family who designated funds for this project.
