Workshop Menu Varied, Tasty

The 2009 Peace Colloquy will offer an opportunity for women and men to explore continuing women’s justice issues and act as allies in the cause of dignity for all. Come to the Temple in Independence, Missouri, October 23–25 to explore how women and men can work in partnership for the sake of our children, grandchildren, and future generations.

Workshops will focus on various aspects of the theme, “Dignity for Women, Justice for All.” Family relationships will be the focus of

• Balancing Family, Career, and Discipleship (Apostles Linda Booth and Stassi Cramm)

• Desert Spirituality in the Wilderness of Marriage (theologians Charmaine and Tony Chvala-Smith)

• Marriage Takes Three Talking (Jeri Lauren, Family Ministries, and Sam Lambert)

Congregational issues will be addressed in

• How to Rally My Congregation for Peace and Justice (Erica Blevins Nye, young-adult disciple formation, and Tom Mountenay, Co-Missioned Pastor Initiative)

• Joys and Challenges of Women in Ministry (panel)

• Shared Leadership (Betty Dixon, Alabama-Northwest Florida USA Mission Center)

Several other workshops will explore theological and peace-and-justice issues, including

• A Biblical Mandate for Women’s Equality (Sue McLaughlin, Community of Christ Seminary associate dean)

• Emma Smith: A Model of Faithful Resistance? (panel)

• Ending Genocide in Darfur (Community of Christ International Peace Award recipient Halima Bashir and others)

• Ending Violence against Women (Hope House representative and others)

• Jewish, Christian, and Muslim Women Working Together (panel)
