Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
Recent developments in the financial markets and banking systems of
the world, in addition to the impact of natural disasters and political
instability around the world, have caused deepening concern among many
people. These concerns range from growing anxiety about personal
well-being to fear about the stability and health of organizations,
institutions, and nations, about which we care deeply.
The leadership of the church is acutely aware of the unusual
pressures being placed on individuals and families throughout the world.
From those who are struggling with home mortgages to families that are
just trying to find enough food to survive, many are facing adversities.
We understand how difficult it is, especially in times such as these, to
balance all the demands and requests on your lives, much less all of the
larger opportunities that you would like to address.
We remain confident that God is blessing and leading the church as we
continue to respond to our call to “share the peace of Jesus Christ”
with the world. We sincerely appreciate the time, talents, and resources
that you provide to support the local and worldwide ministries of the
church.
During this time of global financial downturn, we are making every
effort to manage expenses and to ensure that your tithing contributions
to the World Church are directed to essential functions and ministries
that support our mission. Your continuing generous giving will allow the
church to sustain our mission in the months ahead.
As a valued supporter of the church, we want to keep you updated
about church mission, events, and important news. In addition to the
information provided in the Herald, which we hope you are receiving, we
encourage you to sign up for free Community of Christ E-Subscriptions at
www.CofChrist.org/subscribe.asp.
This service allows you to choose the types of electronic news and
communications you would like to receive.
In the final analysis, we know that our ultimate security and
well-being rests in God, our loving Creator and Sustainer, and in the
supportive relationships of our beloved faith community. In all
circumstances, we give thanks to God for the wonderful hope and peace of
the gospel revealed in Jesus Christ.
We pray that God will bless you with peace and assurance in the days
ahead.
