Susan
Skoor to Speak at JWHA Spring Banquet
The John Whitmer Historical Association (JWHA) will hold its biennial spring
banquet in Independence, Missouri, on Friday, March 23, at 7:00 p.m. All are
invited to enjoy this event at Ophelia’s Restaurant on the evening before World
Conference convenes in Independence, Missouri. Dinner and admission is $30 per
person.
Apostle Susan Skoor will speak on the topic “Women in Ministry.” She
presented a version of this address at the Sunstone Symposium in Salt Lake City,
Utah, last August to rave reviews.
Founded in 1973 and taking its name from the church’s first official
historian and one of the witnesses to the Book of Mormon, JWHA promotes the
study and discussion of Latter Day Saint history through its annual conferences,
the JWHA Journal, and John Whitmer Books. The association’s president is Alex
Baugh, professor of religion and history at Brigham Young University. Barbara
Walden, director of the Kirtland Temple Historic Site for Community of Christ,
is the association’s president-elect.
For directions to the restaurant visit www.opheliasind.com, or call
(816) 461-4525. The banquet follows the pre-World Conference service of honor
and recognition from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. at the Temple and a 6:00 p.m. JWHA
business meeting, which is open to all JWHA members. Visit the Web site at
