The Discipleship Ministries Team

Congregational Ministries, an area of Field Resources, recently formed a new functional team responsible for development of resources and congregational leadership training and support. The Team will explore models for holistic approaches to authentic Christian discipleship from childhood through adult. It is intended that this move will strengthen the collaboration efforts of Field Resources with other headquarters and field functions in promoting cross-functionality in participation, planning, and integration of functions and projects.

Team members include:
Connie Le Elgan, Administrative Assistant
Tammy Lindle, Missionary Resource Specialist
Sharon Troyer, Discipleship Resource Specialist
Ken Schnell, Stewardship and Oblation Ministries Resource Specialist
Mike Hoffman, Discipleship Formation Specialist with responsibilities for Young Adult Ministry
Jane Watkins, Pastor and Leader's Support Specialist, CLW Director, and Congregational Partnering Coordinator

Other Ministry Teams in Congregational Ministries include the Worship Ministry Team, Peace and Justice Ministry Team, Forefront: Children and Youth Ministry Team, and the Children’s Peace Pavilion.

Young Adult Ministry

Kelly Phipps, World Church Young Adult Minister, has accepted a position with the Mediation Center as Executive Director in Lincoln Nebraska. We express our appreciation for his leadership and ministry with young adults. Mike Hoffman, Discipleship Formation Specialist, has been assigned to work with Young Adult Ministry effective July 1, 2003. This half-time assignment, coupled with the creation of a Young Adult Steering Committee, will support and strengthen the work of Young Adult field ministers throughout the church. Young adults make up nearly 20% of church membership in North America. A vital element of a dynamic worldwide witness of the Community of Christ is the engagement of young adults in the mission and life of the church.

Mike Hoffman and the Young Adult Steering Committee will work together to

  • Strategize and plan world church efforts for young adult ministry.
  • Identify and recommend resources needed for young adults.
  • Maintain a network of full time Young Adult field ministers.
  • Be a "clearing house" for training and educational needs for young adults. Provide young adult programming at World Church Events.
  • Collaborate with Apostle Leonard Young, whose functional assignment is with Young Adult Ministries.

The Steering Committee will be organized this summer and members will be announced in September.
