Offering Aid to Afghanistan Refugees
Contributions to the
World Hunger Fund beyond the average amount during
February and March will be distributed to Church World Service to aid
Afghanistan refugees. This will be in addition to $25,000 granted to Church
World Service in December from the World Hunger Fund for this purpose.
This is an invitation to go beyond what has been done to fund the significant
needs related specifically to the events of September 11. These dollars will be
used to meet basic living needs of those displaced by Taliban rule, the
devastation of the air strikes, and the impact of the Northern Alliance in
Afghanistan.
Aid agencies believe more than two million people will not have enough food
for the winter. But our contributions can help! Refugees are being provided with
a six-month food supply at the cost of $256 per family. More information is
available at www.churchworldservice.org,
or call Ken Schnell at 1-800-825-2806, ext. 3073, or e-mail kschnell@CofChrist.org.
As a peace and justice church we can respond to the message of our name and
mission by helping these innocent victims have food to sustain them until they
are able to return to their homeland.
