distributing school suppliesA Growing Family

One family, one Community of Christ minister, and a collection of outdoor meeting spaces describe the beginning of the Tecate, Baja California, North Mexico Community of Christ. As the group began to grow, World Ministries Mission Tithes funds helped rent a storefront and provide Bible school materials and leadership training with Seventy Linda Espiritu Santo from Los Angeles, California, USA.

Now the Tecate congregation owns a large building where more than 70 people gather for worship on Sundays and Thursdays, Bible study and music classes on Tuesdays, and other activities and fellowship like a food pantry and potluck meals.

World Church minister Gina Norton arranged for the Southwest International Mission Center to provide school supplies and scholarships so the 32 elementary and seven junior-high students from the Tecate congregation can attend school. This year the congregation is excited about the first youth who will attend high school—a phenomenal achievement in this place where most children don’t finish elementary school.

Church is now a way of life for Tecate families as they experience the transforming love and peace of Jesus Christ and those who minister in his name.
