Requests Originating with Outreach International

Dominican Republic Schools Food and Water Program. Provides clean drinking water and a daily meal to school children in Los Mulos and La Romana areas, most of whom are from poor Haitian refugee families. $19,000.

Africa Field Program. Supports field staff working in human development projects in 4 African nations: Zambia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi and Kenya. $65,000.

Training Program. This grant supports a special emphasis on training field staff so that they can more competently conceive and supervise the many agricultural projects needed to improve food production and storage in the 4 African countries where Outreach International is active. $25,000.

Nicaragua Field Program. Ongoing support of food security and clean water projects in several rural communities. $7,000.

Gumiguda School - East India. Provides nourishing meal for both ‘day’ and residential students in this mountainous area of Orissa state. $14,000.

Zion’s Hope Day Care Facility - Brazil. Longstanding support for the nutrition program of this day care facility located in a poverty-ridden section of Sao Paolo, Brazil. $10,000.

Requests Originating with World Accord

Lenca Women in Action. This project is to supply honey bees and laying hens to 240 women living on small hillside farms around Tegucigulpa, Honduras. The purpose is to increase food security and assist in establishing small businesses to augment family income. $35, 952.

Programma de Reconstruccion Rural. This grant represents current fiscal year funding for an ongoing program of development around La Buena Fe, Honduras. It involves instructing local farmers in the use of hybrid bean and corn varietals to increase yield, as well as nitrogen fixing through organic fertilizer use. $19,975.

SAP Nepal. This grant supports a national training organization in Nepal that aims to enhance local capacities through farmer education and micro-credit, among other training activities. $17,730.

Total amount approved:  $73, 657 USD

It should be noted that all the World Accord grants are in US dollars, but will be matched at a ratio of at least 3:1 by Canadian Government funds.

Food Pantry - Marina, California, USA. Second year funding to support operation of this food pantry sponsored by several churches in the Marina area, including the Community of Christ congregation in Monterey, CA. $7,500.
