Summary of Actions, October 18, 2002

Requests Originating with Outreach International

Dominican Republic Schools Food and Water Program: These funds help provide clean drinking water and a daily meal to school children in Los Mulos and La Romana. $19,000.

Gumiguda School, East India: This grant provides continued support of the nutrition program at Gumiguda School in Orissa State. $14,000.

Zion’s Hope Day Care Center, Brazil: This program provides nourishing meals and primary education to approximately 100 preschool children in Ferraz de Vasconcelos, a poor suburb of Sao Paulo, Brazil. $10,000.

Africa Field Project: This grant helps support the work of several human development specialists working to assist in creating sustainable food production initiatives among the individuals and families in poor communities in the African countries of Kenya, Zambia, Malawi, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. $52,000.

Assessment of Food Assistance Project in Zambia:  This grant is to enable Outreach personnel conduct a rapid appraisal of the possibilities for establishing contacts with NGOs and other collaborating organizations in Zambia and Malawi by means of on-site evaluation. $15,000.

Total amount approved:  $110,000


Requests Originating with World Accord

PRR, La Buena Fe, Honduras: This grant supports a long-range program of training to develop the capacity of small farmers to increase crop production, food storage, and marketing techniques in the La Buena Fe area. $20,887.

Clean Drinking Water Project, Swabi District, Pakistan: This project will provide drinking water through a pipeline to 270 houses in the village of Dalori Bala within one year. $1,690.

Irrigation and Water Management System, Pakistan: This grant supports the development of an irrigation water facility for farmers in six villages in the Punjab area. $3,297.

Farmer Training, Sindh District, Pakistan: The object of this program is to increase the technical knowledge of farming systems among the poor farmers in four villages of the Sindh District in Pakistan. $1,067.

SAP Nepal: This grant supports the work of the national training organization in Nepal that aims to increase food production through education in better farming techniques, food storage and seed production. $32,795.

Filipino Deportation Reintegration: Provides relief for refugee Filipinos deported from Malaysia back to Mindanao in the Philippines. $15,054.

World Accord Core Funding: This grant goes to support some of the administrative costs associated with the operation of World Accord. $25,000.

Total amount approved:  $83,228 U.S.

It should be noted that all the World Accord grants are in US dollars, but will be matched at a ratio of at least 3:1 by Canadian Government funds.


Direct Requests

Stockton, Missouri Christmas Baskets: This provides start up money for a program of providing Christmas baskets to needy families in the Stockton area. $2000.

Loaves and Fishes, Branson, Missouri: This grant assists the Branson congregation in supplying food to needy persons in the Branson area, especially through the winter months. $1000.

Least of These Ministries, Kansas City, Missouri: This is a project to assist in feeding and caring for needy persons around one of the congregations in the Kansas City area. $12,000.

Emergency Grant for the Africa Field- Liberia: This grant is to provide for purchasing emergency food supplies for church members in and around Monrovia who have been displaced by recent war activities. $4,200.

Total amount approved:  $19,200
